Bottom Line
Legette was selected with the final pick of the first round, but starting his NFL career as a 23-year-old is not ideal.
Being handpicked by the new coaching staff for the Mike Evans role in Dave Canales’ offense is exciting, but the Panthers are unlikely to be a high-powered offense.
He is likely to start off slow and is not a great bet to be startable this season, so we have him lower in our 2024 WR rankings compared to his current ADP.
What We Learned Last Year
- Legette was selected by the Panthers with the 32nd overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft.
- He played five years at South Carolina, making very little impact until the 2023 season.
- Legette posted career-best numbers across the board last year:
- 97 targets
- 71 catches
- 1,255 receiving yards
- 7 receiving TDs
- Legette’s breakout age at 22.6 is eighth percentile among drafted WRs.
- He was near the top of the leaderboards in the SEC:
- Second in yards per game (104.5)
- Fourth in receptions per game (5.9)
- Fifth in yards per catch (17.68)
- Legette was named second-team All-SEC.
- He measured in at 6 '1, 212 pounds at the NFL Combine and registered an outstanding 4.39 40-yard time.
What to Expect in 2024
- Legette will play under HC Dave Canales who will be calling plays for the Panthers offense.
- Canales was the OC for the Buccaneers last season.
- Under Canales, the Buccaneers ranked 19th in the NFL with 568 passes.
- Legette is unlikely to out-target WR Diontae Johnson. We’ll see if the rookie can push past Adam Thielen for the No. 2 WR job.
- The Panthers are expected to take a step forward this year after only winning two games last season. They are fourth in the NFC South and 31st in the league with a 5.5 win total at most sportsbooks.
- The Panthers have the worst odds in the NFL to win the Super Bowl at +25000 at most sportsbooks.
