Chris Brazzell Needs Season-Ending Knee Surgery

Panthers WR Chris Brazzell will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn LCL in his left knee, The Athletic's Joseph Person reports. Brazzell went down after getting tangled up with a defender in Wednesday's practice. The third-round rookie was competing for the No. 3 WR job behind Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker. Xavier Legette now becomes the favorite there, though Person says John Metchie and David Moore remain in the mix.

Panthers WR Chris Brazzell suffered a "moderate" LCL tear in his left knee Wednesday, according to multiple reports. He's expected to miss "up to eight weeks." Brazzell is headed for a second opinion. The third-round rookie had missed two practices earlier in the week because of soreness in the same knee.

The Panthers on Thursday agreed to a three-year extension with WR Jalen Coker that'll pay $35 million, with incentives that could push it to $41 million, according to multiple reports.

The Carolina Panthers selected Tennessee WR Chris Brazzell II in Round 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft. After a shoulder injury limited him to two games in 2022, Brazzell rebounded in 2023 with 44 catches, 771 yards, and 5 TDs at Tulane. From there, he transferred to Tennessee, but his numbers dipped. Brazzell posted a 29-333-2 line on a poor 50% catch rate, hurt by an ugly 17.1% drop rate. His 1.23 yards per route run ranked 242nd among 260 qualifying WRs. Brazzell put his best work on film in 2025, as he led the SEC in regular-season receiving yards. He cleaned up the drops and turned into one of the nation’s top downfield threats with a 13-509-6 line on deep targets alone. At 6’4, 198 pounds, Brazzell confirmed his speed at the NFL Combine with a 4.37 forty-yard dash.

Panthers WR Jalen Coker has “more or less solidified himself as the team’s No. 2 WR,” per reporter Alex Zietlow of The Charlotte Observer. You probably remember Coker’s huge playoff game against the Rams: 9 catches, 134 yards, and 1 score on a 23% target share. Going back to Week 10, he ran a clear second among Carolina WRs in route rate, registering an 84% mark. The 24-year-old is now an exclusive rights free agent, but there’s no chance of him getting out of Carolina.
