NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the Chiefs are expected to starting S Juan Thornhill in place of S Daniel Sorensen today against Washington. That follows a game in which Sorensen was charged with allowing a 61-yard reception to Bills WR Stefon Diggs and a 53-yard TD to Dawson Knox. It also comes with K.C. needing to improve 1 of the league's worst defenses. Thornhill played less than 50% of the snaps as the 3rd safety each of the past 4 weeks, so Sorensen should be out of IDP lineups. Thornhill becomes an option but doesn't carry the tackle upside of Sorensen.
The Chiefs have designated S Daniel Sorensen to return from IR and expect him to practice Wednesday. Sorensen has been out since August knee surgery after he suffered a lateral meniscus tear, an MCL injury and a tibial plateau fracture in his left leg. Sorensen could quickly work his way back into a defense that has largely struggled this season and continues to miss S Eric Berry. We'll keep an eye on Sorensen's progress for IDP purposes.
The Chiefs on Sunday placed S Daniel Sorensen on IR and re-signed S Ron Parker. By placing Sorensen on the active roster first, the team made him eligible to return this year. "We hope he plays at least half the season," GM Brett Veach said, according to ESPN's Adam Teicher. Sorensen tore the lateral meniscus, damaged the MCL and fractured the tibia in his left leg early in training camp. Parker spent the past 5 years with the Chiefs, 4 of those as a starter, before going unsigned in free agency this offseason. We'll see how K.C. plans to handle the spot next to Eric Berry in Week 1.
Chiefs S Daniel Sorensen suffered a knee injury this week that will require surgery and sideline him into the early part of the regular season, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Sorensen had been working as a starter next to Eric Berry. His absence presents opportunity for rookie Armani Watts to step up, though. We'll see if Sorensen's spot is waiting for him -- or taken -- when he returns.
