Christian Kirk Headshot

49ers WR Christian Kirk missed the second day of training camp after straining his calf on Day 1, according to Matt Maiocco of NBC. His absence could give rookie second-round WR De’Zhaun Stribling more early camp work. The 49ers signed Kirk to a one-year deal worth up to $6 million this offseason.

2026 Fantasy Football Impact: Stribling Gets An Opening

Kirk has dealt with lower-leg issues throughout his career, including a hamstring strain that cost him two games last season. He also suffered a calf strain in the 2024 preseason, though he didn’t miss any time.

Though, he missed nine games that 2024 season due to a fractured collarbone. The Sports Injury Predictor puts Kirk at a 35% chance to miss at least two quarters this season.

Kirk’s absence opens more early camp reps for young WRs like Stribling, Jordan Watkins, and Jacob Cowing. The 49ers used the 33rd overall pick on Stribling, so they’re clearly hoping he becomes an impact player.

Stribling still needs to pass Kirk for snaps in 3-WR sets, but this could be an opening if the calf strain lingers.

Neither projects as a major redraft target right now, with Stribling at WR82 and Kirk at WR101 in our rankings. Positive camp reports on Stribling could change that.

We’ll keep tracking Kirk’s injury and the 49ers’ camp.

Dynasty Impact: Stribling Stock Can Climb

Stribling has already been a dynasty target, going in the second round of 12-team PPR rookie drafts. More camp reps and positive buzz could push his stock even higher by August.
