49ers RB Jordan James fractured a rib in Monday's practice and "will miss some time," ESPN's Nick Wagoner reports. James opened camp running as the No. 2 RB, but his absence gives rookie Kaelon Black a chance to grab that job.
What They're Saying: Expect James To Miss 2-3 Weeks
Dr. of Physical Therapy Jeff Mueller: "Depends on severity but average ~2-3 weeks w/ return wearing flak jacket."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact: Black Now A Better Bet
The 2-3 week timetable would at least have James back in time for the start of the season. But he's going to miss important camp reps in his battle for the No. 2 RB job.
We're still not super interested in the 49ers' No. 2 RB in fantasy drafts. That role will carry no standalone fantasy value, and we'd expect a committee attack if Christian McCaffrey misses time.
But if you're dabbling in this situation at the end of drafts, Black is the better bet right now.
