C.J. Anderson Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

The Lions have released RB C.J. Anderson and signed RB Paul Perkins. Anderson played 29% of Detroit's offensive snaps and handled 11 carries in Week 1. But he dipped to a 20% snap rate and 5 carries in Week 2. He averaged an ugly 2.7 yards on his 16 attempts. Perkins hasn't tallied a regular-season touch since 2017 and sports a career 3.6 yards-per-attempt average. He shouldn't be a big factor in this backfield. We'd consider this move good news for RB Kerryon Johnson, although it looks like Detroit wants to get RB Ty Johnson involved, too.

The Lions have reached a 1-year deal with RB C.J. Anderson, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. That supports HC Matt Patricia's recently stated plan of continuing to deploy a backfield committee. Anderson joins a group that will also return Kerryon Johnson, Theo Riddick and Zach Zenner (who got a new 1-year deal). Anderson came on with the Rams at the end of last season after doing next-to-nothing with the Panthers. L.A. opted for youngster Malcolm Brown, however, behind Todd Gurley. Anderson threatens to take goal-line carries from Johnson, though the 2018 rookie remains the highest-upside RB in Detroit. This will be 1 of the more interesting backfield's to project over the next 2 months.

The Rams have matched the offer sheet RB Malcolm Brown signed with the Lions as a restricted free agent, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. It's a 2-year, $3.25 million contract, not enough money to necessarily steer what else the team does at the position. But the move might make re-signing unrestricted free agent C.J. Anderson less likely. Brown has logged just 128 total carries and 18 receptions through 4 pro seasons. He'd look a lot more attractive this year as Todd Gurley's lead backup if that's how he enters 2019 fantasy football drafts, though.

Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) is out for Sunday’s game against the 49ers. He’ll get another week off in the Wild Card Round — assuming Los Angeles wins this weekend — and should be back for the playoff opener. C.J. Anderson will again serve as the lead back on Sunday, making him a borderline RB1.

Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) remained sidelined on Thursday. He's not looking particularly likely to play in this weekend's finale against the 49ers. That'd again leave C.J. Anderson as Los Angeles' lead back.

Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) remained sidelined on Wednesday. That makes 4 straight missed practices. The Rams need a win over the 49ers this weekend to lock up the NFC's #1 seed -- but they can probably get it with C.J. Anderson. Gurley seems no better than 50/50 to play in the finale.

The Rams will consider sitting RB Todd Gurley (knee) again in Sunday's finale against the 49ers, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. L.A. still needs a win to lock up the NFC's #2 seed, but "nothing is more important than the playoffs," Rapoport adds. Of course, it'll also be easier to keep Gurley sidelined after C.J. Anderson ripped off 167 yards and a score on 20 carries yesterday. Anderson will be a strong fantasy play if Gurley ends up inactive again this weekend.

Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) is INACTIVE for today’s game against the Cardinals. His warmup evidently didn’t go well enough to get the green light. RB Justin Davis (shoulder) is active and joins C.J. Anderson and John Kelly in the backfield. It’s a situation to try to avoid, but if you need 1 of them, Anderson is the best fantasy bet.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) remains a game-time decision but that the team will be "cautious" with him. "While some are hopeful that he goes, others point out the team won’t do anything to put him at further risk of injury," Rapoport tweeted. Gurley seems truly 50/50 at this point -- and it looks like we won't get his official status until inactives are announced around 3 pm ET. If you're hoping to use him in fantasy lineups, you need to have a late-game alternative rostered. C.J. Anderson will be the best bet in Los Angeles' backfield if Gurley sits.

Rams RB Todd Gurley (knee) didn’t practice all week and will be a game-time decision on Sunday, HC Sean McVay said. McVay was optimistic about Gurley all week but seemed less so on Friday. The situation is complicated by the fact that Rams-Cardinals doesn’t kick off until 4:05 pm ET. We’ll look for an update on Gurley’s status on Sunday morning. The Rams’ official website suggested on Friday that newly signed RB C.J. Anderson would lead the way in carries if Gurley can’t play. Rookie RB John Kelly would also be in the mix. RB Justin Davis (shoulder) is questionable.

The Rams are signing RB C.J. Anderson, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports. It's Todd Gurley insurance. Gurley is tentatively expected to play against the Cardinals this weekend. But if he can't, we'd likely see a committee with Anderson, John Kelly and potentially Justin Davis, who suffered a shoulder injury last week.

The Raiders have released RB C.J. Anderson. OK then. Anderson lasted a week in Oakland and didn't play in a game. Doug Martin remains locked in as the Raiders' lead ball-carrier the rest of the way.

Raiders RB Doug Martin (knee) is active for today’s game against the Steelers. Newly signed RB C.J. Anderson is a healthy scratch. Martin should continue to serve as Oakland’s lead back but is just a RB3 vs. Pittsburgh’s tough run defense.

Raiders HC Jon Gruden revealed Wednesday that RB Doug Martin has a knee injury and is "uncertain" for this weekend's game against the Steelers. We'll keep an eye on him over the next few days. Oakland just signed RB C.J. Anderson, who would figure to form a committee with Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington if Martin can't go. This is a situation to avoid against a tough Pittsburgh run defense.

The Raiders have signed RB C.J. Anderson. The 27-year-old was stuck behind Christian McCaffrey in Carolina, carrying just 24 times in 9 appearances. He averaged a decent 4.3 yards per carry. Oakland probably wants to see what Anderson has left in the tank and if he can help in 2019 and beyond. Don't be surprised if he steals a handful of carries per game from Doug Martin.

The Panthers released RB C.J. Anderson. After inking a 1-year, $1.75 million deal in May, Anderson carried just 24 times in 9 appearances with Carolina. His departure leaves RB Cameron Artis-Payne as Christian McCaffrey's backup.
