The 49ers have agreed to a deal with Jordan Matthews. The former WR for multiple teams -- San Francisco, most recently -- has added weight and is transitioning to TE. He joins a crowd at his new position. Besides George Kittle, San Francisco sports TEs Ross Dwelley, Charlie Woerner, MyCole Pruitt and Josh Pederson. Odds seem against Matthews even making the regular-season roster, but we'll see where this goes. He should at least face an easier transition than Logan Thomas did from QB. Matthews turned 29 in July.

The Eagles have released WR Jordan Matthews. This comes just a day after he played 96% of the offensive snaps in the loss to Seattle. The move suggests that the Eagles expect at least 1 of Alshon Jeffery and Nelson Agholor back for Week 13.

Eagles WRs Alshon Jeffery (ankle) and Nelson Agholor (knee) are inactive for today’s game against the Seahawks. That leaves Jordan Matthews, Mack Hollins, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside and Greg Ward as Philly’s healthy WRs. We wouldn’t trust any of them in fantasy lineups. TE Zach Ertz, TE Dallas Goedert and RB Miles Sanders could be the team’s top 3 target-getters today.

Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery (ankle) missed practice again on Thursday. He's now in real danger of missing this weekend's game against the Patriots. That'd leave Nelson Agholor, Mack Hollins, rookie J.J. Arcega-Whiteside and newly signed Jordan Matthews as Philly's top 4 WRs. It'd also figure to push more targets to TEs Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert.

The Eagles have signed WR Jordan Matthews. He opened his career in Philly from 2014 to 2016 and also spent 2018 there, so he has some familiarity with QB Carson Wentz and HC Doug Pederson. Matthews has struggled with injuries in recent seasons, but if healthy could push WR Mack Hollins for snaps down the stretch. We wouldn't bother adding Matthews to fantasy rosters right now, though.

The 49ers have signed WR Jordan Matthews to a 1-year deal. The 2014 2nd-rounder racked up 225 catches and 2,673 yards over his first 3 NFL seasons. But he's mustered just 45 grabs and 582 yards across the past 2, dealing with injuries and playing for 3 different teams. Matthews turns just 27 in July, though, and is capable of playing both outside the numbers and in the slot. There's opportunity for him to carve out a significant role in San Francisco amid a largely unproven WR corps.

The Eagles have signed WR Jordan Matthews. A 2nd-round pick by Philly back in 2014, Matthews averaged 75 catches, 891 yards and 6.3 TDs across his first 3 seasons. He was a non-factor after being shipped to Buffalo last year and then was cut by the Patriots after injuring his hamstring in August. Matthews is still just 26, though, and was a fantasy asset just a couple of seasons ago. There's opportunity in Philadelphia with WR Alshon Jeffery still sidelined and WR Mike Wallace now on IR. Matthews is worth monitoring -- and maybe even adding as a flier in deep fantasy leagues.

The Patriots have released WR Jordan Matthews. That didn't take long. After reportedly impressing in spring workouts, Matthews suffered a significant hamstring injury in Sunday's camp practice. We'll see if and when he resurfaces, but he's obviously off the redraft radar now. New England is left with Kenny Britt, Phillip Dorsett, Cordarrelle Patterson and rookie Braxton Berrios behind Chris Hogan and the suspended Julian Edelman. Malcolm Mitchell remains sidelined with his knee issue.

Update: New England ended up placing Matthews (hamstring) on IR. He'll likely end up being released with an injury settlement.

Patriots WR Jordan Matthews is dealing with what NFL Network's Ian Rapoport calls a "significant" hamstring injury. Matthews went down in practice on Sunday and hasn't been back on the field since. He had been considered the favorite to step in during Julian Edelman's 4-game suspension, but this injury throws a wrench in those plans. We've heard positive buzz on WRs Kenny Britt, Phillip Dorsett and Cordarrelle Patterson early in camp. And New England has shown some interest in free-agent WR Eric Decker. This remain a wide-open situation that we'll be monitoring closely.

Patriots WR Malcolm Mitchell underwent surgery on his knee on Monday, according to the Providence Journal's Mark Daniels. It's presumably the same right knee that he injured late in 2016 and caused him to miss the entire 2017 season. Now Mitchell's 2018 campaign "looks to be in jeopardy," Daniels writes. The 25-year-old is obviously off the redraft radar -- and his dynasty value is fading fast. Jordan Matthews looks like the favorite to serve as New England's #2 WR with Julian Edelman suspended for the season's first 4 games.

Update: The procedure on Mitchell's knee was "aimed at hoping to accelerate healing," according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Patriots WR Malcolm Mitchell admitted that he's unsure if he'll be ready for the start of camp. Mitchell has a long history of knee issues dating back to his college days. He hurt his right knee late in the 2016 campaign, missed all of this past season and is evidently still being bothered by the issue. Mitchell finds plenty of opportunity this year with Brandin Cooks gone and Julian Edelman suspended for 4 games. But he can't capitalize if he's not the field. Jordan Matthews looks like the better late-round flier in the Patriots' WR corps right now.

Patriots WR Julian Edelman is facing a 4-game suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance enhancing substances, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Edelman has appealed the ban, so we'll see if it gets reduced. But fantasy owners should now be drafting as if he'll miss the first 4 games of the season. Edelman is returning from last August's torn ACL but had averaged 9.6 targets per game over the previous 3 seasons. So this is a big opportunity opening up in an offense that's finished top 12 in passing yards in an incredible 16 straight years. WR Chris Hogan is a good bet to serve as New England's #1 WR during Edelman's suspension. Jordan Matthews, Malcolm Mitchell, Kenny Britt, Phillip Dorsett and Cordarrelle Patterson will battle for snaps behind Hogan.

The Patriots have agreed to a 1-year deal with WR Jordan Matthews, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Matthews endured a terrible 2017 that included just 25 receptions and ended early for knee and ankle surgeries. The Eagles traded him to Buffalo in August, but Matthews immediately suffered a sternum fracture -- losing crucial preparation time -- and also lost mid-season time to a thumb fracture that required surgery. New England can be a charmed situation for offensive skill players, but the Patriots stand crowded at WR right now. The corps will take some sorting before fantasy football owners can know who to trust. Matthews is an OK shot to take near the end of best-ball drafts but a big risk earlier than that. Matthews has been much better in the slot than outside as an NFL wideout and thus looks more like a candidate to take over for Danny Amendola rather than direct competition for Kenny Britt and Malcolm Mitchell.

Bills WR Jordan Matthews announced Tuesday that he underwent knee and ankle surgeries. He's dealt with knee tendonitis for the better part of the past 2 years and missed 2 games with an ankle injury last season -- although it's unclear if the surgeries are related to either. Regardless, Matthews has had all sorts of trouble staying healthy, also fracturing his sternum and breaking his thumb this year. He's set to hit free agency in March.

The Bills have placed WR Jordan Matthews on IR with a knee injury, ending his 2017 season. It's unclear if Matthews suffered the injury last week or if it's something he's been dealing with. He has a history of knee tendonitis. The move ends a disappointing campaign that saw Matthews muster just 25 catches, 282 yards and 1 score in 10 appearances. He'll hit free agency in March, and getting out of Buffalo would be his best move. He's still only 25 and racked up 225 catches over his first 3 NFL seasons.
