Moore struggled to find playing time as a rookie last year, finishing with just 22 catches for 250 yards and 0 TDs.

That probably shouldn’t have come as a big surprise, though, considering he played QB and CB in high school and then played just 30 college games at WR.

There should still be plenty of room for growth for Moore, who turns 23 in September. And he finds exciting opportunity in 2023 in a wide-open Chiefs WR corps.

The quiet rookie season means that you shouldn’t go all-in on Moore. But he’s certainly an intriguing pick in the double-digit rounds of fantasy drafts as an upside bench stash.

What We Learned Last Year

• Moore managed just 22 catches for 250 yards and 0 TDs in 16 games as a rookie last year. (He missed Week 18 with a hand injury.)
• He didn’t finish better than WR33 in PPR points in any week. And he cracked the top 50 WRs just twice.
• Moore never reached a 50% snap rate across his 16 regular-season games. His 313 total snaps ranked fourth among Chiefs WRs – behind Marquez Valdes-Scantling, JuJu Smith-Schuster and Justin Watson. Moore just barely out-snapped Mecole Hardman, who played only eight games.
• He ranked eighth on the team (and fifth among Chiefs WRs) with 33 targets.
• One positive from his rookie season: Moore drew a target on 18.2% of his routes. That was second-best among Chiefs WRs, behind only Kadarius Toney, who ran just 69 routes for Kansas City.
• It shouldn’t have come as a big surprise that Moore was quiet as a rookie. He played QB and CB in high school before transitioning to WR as a freshman at Western Michigan. And, while he had a productive college career, he played only 30 games. So Moore entered the league as an inexperienced prospect – and then missed most of last year’s offseason program with a left hamstring injury.

What to Expect in 2023

• Moore joined an extremely underwhelming list of rookie WRs drafted in Rounds 1-3 who played 10+ games and averaged fewer than 4 PPR points per game over the last 10 seasons.
• On the plus side, Moore finds plenty of opportunity in his second NFL season. The Chiefs lost 135 targets (20.7% of the total) from last year with the offseason departures of WRs JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman.
• Kansas City only added veteran Richie James and rookie Rashee Rice to the WR corps. Kadarius Toney, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Justin Watson return from last year’s squad. None of those guys have reached 700 receiving yards in an NFL season.
• HC Andy Reid gave a tepid endorsement of Moore at the Combine in February, calling him “very talented” and saying he’ll “probably” have a bigger role this season.
• Kansas City has finished top 6 in passing yards and TDs in all five seasons with QB Patrick Mahomes as the starter.
• Chiefs WRs have ranked 15th or better in total WR PPR points in all five of those seasons, so there are certainly fantasy points to be had here.
