What You Need to Know:

  • A catch-first TE from the University of Miami, Jordan surprisingly dropped to Round 5 of the 2021 draft.
  • Size might be one reason why: Jordan is a bit undersized at 6’3, 245 pounds.
  • Jordan missed 1 game as a rookie due to a hand injury and sat out others as a healthy inactive. He didn’t make his debut until Week 8.
  • Across 9 games, Jordan snagged 20 of 28 targets for 178 yards and 3 scores.
  • He finished as a top-12 TE 4 times, maxing out as the TE5 in Week 8.
  • Among 54 TEs with 25+ targets, Jordan ranked T-30th in yards per route run.
  • Jordan was trusted to play in-line, despite blocking concerns. A hefty 70.3% of his snaps came in-line; 22.4% out of the slot.
  • Houston lost 33 targets with the offseason departure of TE Jordan Akins.
  • Pharaoh Brown returns to the squad to provide main competition. Houston added TE Teagan Quitoriano as a developmental project in the draft.
  • Davis Mills enters his 1st full season as the starter. He’ll do so alongside new OC Pep Hamilton, the QB coach/pass-game coordinator last year.
  • Mills came on down the stretch last year, showing impressive efficiency and arm talent. We like him to take a step forward in year 2.
  • Brandin Cooks, Nico Collins and John Metchie make up Houston’s top-3 WRs. Metchie, coming off a December ACL tear, is a candidate to start slowly.
  • With Houston lacking a high-end receiving back, Jordan could finish 3rd on the team in targets if things break right.

Draft Sharks Bottom Line:

Jordan’s slow start to 2021 wasn’t surprising. After all, he was a 5th-round pick on one of the league’s worst offenses.

The fact that he saw the field and started to produce late is certainly encouraging, though. Houston’s offseason actions show they’re ready to elevate Jordan’s year 2 role.

He’s lumped into a cluster TE2s with a top-12 ceiling. There’s just not much elevating Jordan outside of potential target volume.

Jordan a healthy scratch

Texans TE Brevin Jordan is a healthy scratch for today’s game vs. the Giants. That leaves Houston with TEs O.J. Howard, Jordan Akins and Teagan Quitoriano. This remains a situation to avoid in Week 10 fantasy lineups.

Texans TE Brevin Jordan (ankle) is listed as questionable for this weekend’s game vs. the Raiders. He put in full practices on Thursday and Friday, though, so we’re expecting him to play. Jordan will join O.J. Howard and Jordan Akins in Houston’s TE corps.

Dynasty Write-up
We were surprised to see Jordan — a catch-first TE — slip to Round 5 of the 2021 draft. He flashed a bit as a rookie with 3 TDs on 20 grabs, and there’s a clear path to a starting role going forward. We’ll see how he develops under new OC Pep Hamilton.
