You might have thought the Bengals were going to release Joe Mixon ... because that's what got reported Monday. Instead, though, Cincinnati is trading the RB to Houston. That's about as good an outcome as Mixon could have found. Houston jumped from 31st in offensive DVOA in 2022 to 14th last year -- with the run game (19th) trailing the pass offense (10th). Further maturation for QB C.J. Stroud and his young wideouts can only help. And the Texans clearly believe Mixon to be an upgrade over the Devin Singletary-Dameon Pierce tandem. Trading for Mixon's contract ($6 million cap hit in 2024) instead of waiting for him to hit the open market says Houston wants Mixon to lead the backfield. Perhaps Mixon draws fewer targets in an offense unlikely to pass as much as Cincinnati's. But it should be a good spot for his efficiency and scoring opportunities. Mixon played all 17 games in 2023, scored the second-most TDs of his career (despite the Bengals' injury-driven offensive issues), and showed no meaningful drop-off across his advanced metrics. Consider him a high-RB2 for 2024 drafts, with upside into RB1 range. Check our best ball rankings for his updated position.

Texans RB Devin Singletary carried 16 times for 80 yards in Sunday's win over the Titans, adding 3 receptions for 6 yards on 3 targets. That found him doubling Dameon Pierce's carry count and tripling Pierce's target count. Singletary has more than doubled Pierce in opportunities in four of five games since Pierce returned from injury. That includes a 47-15 lead for Singletary over the past three weeks. Week 18 holds a matchup with the Colts, who entered Sunday as the third-best scoring matchup for fantasy RBs. There will be upside to Singletary if you're playing Week 18.

Texans RB Devin Singletary controlled the backfield in Sunday's win over the Titans, rushing 26 times for 121 yards and posting a 4-49 receiving line on 5 targets. Singletary took 26 of 28 RB carries for the game and ceded just 1 backfield target to Dare Ogunbowale. RB Dameon Pierce, meanwhile, played just 4 snaps. That marked a season low -- but only trailing his Week 14 by four. Pierce has seen his role shrink significantly since returning from three games lost to injury. The previous two down weeks came in losses, though, including a lopsided defeat to the Jets. Houston did fall 13-0 behind Tennessee early in the second quarter Sunday and trailed 13-3 at halftime. So perhaps game script played into his usage again. But the dramatic difference between his snaps and Singletary's (58) clearly make the latter the favorite to lead the backfield over the final two weeks. Singletary gets a challenging spot against Cleveland in Week 16 before a rematch with the Titans. He should push for a low-RB2 spot in our RB rankings each week. Pierce looks like a handcuff at best.

The forecast for today's Texans-Jets game calls for a near 100% chance of rain. Winds will be at 10-15 mph with potential gusts of 30+. Tough conditions for the passing and kicking games. This over/under has dropped from 38.5 to 33.0. The Texans are implied for only 18.0 points. Check out the updated projections for this game.

RB Devin Singletary's stranglehold on the Texans' backfield has seemingly slipped away. Singletary logged 8 carries for 36 rushing yards with 1 catch for 4 yards as a receiver in Week 13 vs. the Broncos. The veteran appeared on only 45.6% of the team's offensive snaps on Sunday. By contrast, he'd seen the field on 75+% of Houston's offensive snaps in four straight games dating back to Week 8. It was teammate RB Dameon Pierce who led the way in the contest, finishing the day with 15 carries for 41 rushing yards and a TD. It appears the second-year back has resumed his leading duties after missing three games due to an ankle injury. With Pierce back to a more prominent role, it'll be challenging to trust either him or Singletary as much more than flex options in Week 14. Fortunately, they'll be facing off against a Jets defense that's allowed at least 130 rushing yards to opposing offenses in nine of 12 games in 2023.

Texans RB Devin Singletary remained the backfield leader in fantasy scoring in Sunday's loss to the Jaguars. But it came from his lead in receiving work. Singletary ranked second on the team in receptions (6) and receiving yards (54) and third in targets (7) in Sunday's loss to the Jaguars. He split the rushing work near-evenly with Dameon Pierce in the latter's return from injury. Pierce carried five times to Singletary's six and drew 1 target. (He caught it for 4 yards.) The receiving lead makes Singletary the play over his backfield mate. But the split makes Sinlgetary unattractive as a fantasy option.

Texans RB Dameon Pierce (ankle) is active for today’s game vs. the Jaguars. He was a full-go in practice all week, so we’re not expecting the ankle to be much of an issue. OC Bobby Slowik said this week that Pierce and RB Devin Singletary will go back to sharing the workload, although we’re expecting Singletary to lead the way coming off two strong outings. See where the Texans RBs sit in the Week 12 Rankings.

ESPN's Adam Schefter confirms that Texans RB Dameon Pierce (ankle) is expected to play vs. the Jaguars today. Pierce is listed as questionable but was a full-go in practice all week. We're expecting Pierce to return as the 1B in Houston's committee backfield. See where Pierce and Devin Singletary sit in the Week 12 RB Rankings.

Texans RB Dameon Pierce (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game vs. the Jaguars. He was a full-go in practice all week, so we’re fully expecting him to play. OC Bobby Slowik confirmed earlier this week that Pierce and RB Devin Singletary will go back to sharing the workload. Singletary deserves to lead the backfield after his strong play the past two weeks, but he’s just a RB3 in fantasy lineups assuming Pierce plays on Sunday.

Texans RB Dameon Pierce (ankle) was a full-go in Wednesday's practice. He's on track to return for this weekend's game vs. the Jaguars. It's tough to imagine Pierce being reinstalled as lead back considering how awesome RB Devin Singletary has been the past two weeks. But Pierce will certainly cut into Singletary's workload. See where both guys sit in the Week 12 RB Rankings.

Texans RB Dameon Pierce (ankle) is out for this weekend’s game vs. the Cardinals. He returned to a limited practice on Friday, potentially setting him up for a Week 12 return. RB Devin Singletary should again be in a workhorse role on Sunday after racking up 30 carries and two targets on an 81% snap rate last week. He’s a rock-solid RB2 vs. Arizona’s 29th-ranked RB defense.

Texans RB Dameon Pierce (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday. At this point, he seems unlikely to return for this weekend's game vs. the Cardinals. That'd mean another big workload for RB Devin Singletary, who carried a whopping 30 times last week.

Texans RB Dameon Pierce (ankle) is out for Sunday’s game vs. the Bengals. He remained sidelined in practice all week. Devin Singletary gets another game as Houston’s lead back this weekend. He played 75% of the offensive snaps last week but turned 15 touches into just 28 scoreless yards.

Texans RB Dameon Pierce (ankle) remained sidelined on Thursday. It's looking like he'll miss this weekend's game vs. the Bengals. RB Devin Singletary played 75% of Houston's offensive snaps with Pierce out last week but totaled just 28 yards on 15 touches. He'll be a passable but low-upside Week 10 fantasy play if Pierce is out again.

Texans RB Dameon Pierce (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday. That's not a good start for his chances of returning for this weekend's game vs. the Bengals. With Pierce out last week, RB Devin Singletary played 75% of the offensive snaps but totaled just 28 yards on 15 touches.

Texans RB Dameon Pierce (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday’s game vs. the Bucs. That leaves Houston with RBs Devin Singletary, Mike Boone, and Dare Ogunbowale. Singletary should handle the majority of the work, bumping him up to low-end RB2 status for Week 9.

Texans RB Dameon Pierce (ankle) missed practice again on Thursday. "While his status for Sunday's game is still being determined, league source said it's being contemplated to have him miss a game to allow ankle to heal up," insider Aaron Wilson tweeted. We'll see how Pierce is listed on the final injury report tomorrow, but fantasy owners should start preparing to be without him in Week 9 fantasy lineups. Pierce's absence would leave Devin Singletary as Houston's clear lead back -- and a viable RB2 in fantasy football.
