Wilson battled through a rib injury to post a 6-60 line on 11 targets last week. The Steelers rank 28th in adjusted fantasy points allowed to WRs. The big question here is what the return of QB Zach Wilson will mean to the offense.

What You Need to Know:

  • Wilson (6’0, 183) totaled 143 catches, 2,213 yards and 23 TDs across 3 seasons at Ohio State.
  • He really broke out in ’21 with 70-1,058-12 alongside potential top-5 QB CJ Stroud.
  • Wilson’s tape showed an excellent route runner with YAC ability. His frame is simply on the slight side, so play strength will be worth monitoring.
  • Wilson showcased excellent speed at the Combine (4.38 forty) but ranged from underwhelming (4.36 short shuttle) to decent (36-inch vertical) to above average (10’3” broad jump) in the other drills.
  • The Jets drafted Wilson 10th overall, making him the 2nd WR selected behind Drake London.
  • He joins a WR corps that already includes Elijah Moore and Corey Davis.
  • New York added 2 veteran TEs in free agency (Tyler Conklin and CJ Uzomah) making a bump in 2-TE sets likely.
  • Zach Wilson enters year 3 looking for major progress. In ’21, he ranked bottom-5 in completion rate, catchable ball percentage and YPA.

Draft Sharks Bottom Line:

Wilson looked like one of the most polished WRs in the ’22 class. His pro-ready skill set says he should factor into 2-WR looks right away, even on a roster that has Elijah Moore and Corey Davis.

Those guys certainly look like potential target obstacles, though. And with rookie Breece Hall in the backfield, the Jets should achieve much more balance this fall. Barring an injury to Davis or Moore, Wilson’s fantasy performance figures to be inconsistent.

Zach Wilson, QB NYJ

Wilson cleared, on track to start Week 4

Jets HC Robert Saleh announced Wednesday that QB Zach Wilson has been medically cleared from the meniscus tear and bone bruise he suffered in his knee in mid-August. Barring a setback this week, Wilson will start Sunday's game vs. the Steelers. He shouldn't be in fantasy lineups, but we'll see what he means for New York's skill-position guys. QB Joe Flacco currently leads the NFL with 155 pass attempts but completed just 59% of them and averaged an ugly 5.8 yards per attempt. Wilson is certainly capable of beating those numbers.

Jets WRs Garrett Wilson and Elijah Moore drew a matching 10 targets in Sunday's loss to the Bengals, trailing only rookie RB Breece Hall (11). Wilson caught 6 balls for 60 yards. Moore secured 4 for 49. Moore once again led the group in playing time, staying on the field for 28 more snaps and running 19 more routes than Wilson. But the rookie has consistently been targeted on a higher percentage of his routes. According to Pro Football Focus numbers, Wilson has been targeted on 25.6% of his routes, vs. 13.1% for Moore. We'll see how QB Zach Wilson's impending return from a knee injury affects that. Corey Davis remained between Moore and Wilson in playing time but trailed them in targets (5) and production (2 catches, 27 yards). TE Tyler Conklin led the Jets in receptions (8) and receiving yards (84) on 8 targets in the loss to Cincinnati.

Jets WR Garrett Wilson exited in the 2nd quarter of Sunday's game vs. the Bengals after taking a shot to the ribs. He headed back to the x-ray room, according to insider Brian Costello. We'll update Wilson's status when we know more.

Update: Wilson is questionable to return with a knee injury, the team announced.

Update: Wilson returned in the 3rd quarter.

Dynasty Write-up
Wilson joins a somewhat crowded WR corps alongside Elijah Moore, Corey Davis and Braxton Berrios. But Davis is only signed through 2023 (and easily cuttable next offseason), and Berrios is more special-teams ace than real target competition. Of course, the Jets probably expect Wilson to emerge as their #1 WR considering they spent the 10th overall pick on him. Wilson’s agility, quickness and 4.38-second speed make him a good fit in OC Mike LaFleur’s offense, which is focused on getting the ball to its playmakers for run-after-catch opportunities. Wilson’s upside will ultimately hinge on QB Zach Wilson’s development.
