Basic Stats Preseason Player Analysis

What You Need to Know:

  • Woods posted a 90-936-6 receiving line last year, adding another 155 yards and 2 TDs on 24 carries.
  • He finished 13th among WRs in both PPR and non-PPR points.
  • Woods scored as a top-24 PPR WR in half of his games last year -- a rate beat by only 7 WRs.
  • That followed a WR14 PPR finish and WR21 non-PPR finish in 2019.
  • Woods ranked 10th across scoring formats in 2018.
  • Over the past 3 years, Woods ranks 6th among WRs in catches, 10th in yards and 28th in TDs.
  • He also ranks 2nd at his position in rushing yards and TDs over that span.
  • Woods has averaged the 12th most PPR points per game and the 15th most non-PPR points per game among WRs with 100+ targets over the last 3 seasons.
  • Woods returns to HC Sean McVay’s offense in 2021.
  • He gets a likely QB upgrade, going from Jared Goff to Matt Stafford. Stafford has earned a higher Pro Football Focus passing grade than Goff in 2 straight seasons and 3 of the last 4.
  • Stafford should help unlock more of Woods’ downfield ability after Goff struggled mightily in that department last year.
    • Goff’s Pro Football Focus grade on deep passes over the last 4 seasons: 90.6, 93.2, 85.2, 58.
    • Stafford’s deep-passing grades over the same span: 89.7, 92.7, 85.3, 93.0.
  • Woods averaged 13.9 and 14.2 yards per catch on 11.0 and 11.8-yard average depths of targets in 2017 and 2018. He sunk to 12.6 yards per catch on an 8.4-yard aDot in 2019. And last year, Woods averaged a career-low 10.4 yards per catch on a 6.8-yard aDot. That latter mark ranked 71st among 77 qualifying WRs.
  • The Rams lost WR Josh Reynolds and TE Gerald Everett in free agency. They ranked 3rd and 4th, respectively, on last year’s team with 81 and 62 targets.
  • L.A. added free-agent WR DeSean Jackson and rookie WR Tutu Atwell. WR Cooper Kupp and 2020 2nd-round WR Van Jefferson return.
  • Woods has averaged 8.1, 9.3 and 8.1 targets per game over the past 3 seasons. He projects for similar volume in 2021.

Draft Sharks Bottom Line:

Woods has finished 10th, 14th and 13th among WRs in PPR points the last 3 years; 10th, 21st and 13th in non-PPR. He returns to the same offense in 2021, projects for similar volume and gets a likely QB upgrade in Matt Stafford.

Woods should be good for borderline WR1 production again this season -- and again figures to be undervalued in fantasy drafts.

Rams WR Robert Woods rejoined the team Thursday and doesn't appear on the final injury report, but we don't know yet whether he'll play Monday against the Ravens. "It's looking good, but like we've said ... we're just taking it a day at a time," HC Sean McVay said Saturday, according to Pro Football Talk. "Things are looking good, but out of respect for him, with everything that is going on we just said, 'Let's just take it one day at a time, keep the main thing your family." McVay indicated it'll be up to Woods whether he can play Monday night without "inhibiting his ability" to tend to the family situation. We'll keep an eye out for early Sunday updates. For now, it seems like we'll have Woods back for fantasy use.
