Rec Rec Yds Rec TDs Fantasy Pts

Week 6
Woods caught just 2 balls for 31 yards, but his biggest play was a TD in the middle of the field. He was astonishingly wide open and scampered into the end zone from 15 yards out to start the romp of the Giants. He was targeted 5 times, good enough for 2nd on the team behind WR Cooper Kupp (12 targets).
Woods was probably more a victim of the situation as Kupp went off for 9-130-2 against a hapless Giants secondary that didn’t have an answer. He was on the field for most offensive plays, but was used well as a run blocker. He should have a chance to get things going again with a Week 7 matchup against Detroit.
Week 5
Woods finally had his breakout game of 2021, securing 12-150 on 14 targets. Even better news for Woods owners was his usage. Woods paced the team in routes after failing behind players like Van Jefferson and Tyler Higbee early on in the season. Woods should be able to build off this game as he returns to his usual role as the clear 1a/1b with Cooper Kupp moving forward.
In Week 6, Woods should be back in your lineups vs. a struggling Giants secondary. The Giants this season have allowed the 5th most points to outside WRs. This includes double-digit fantasy point performances to notable WRs Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb and Terry McLaurin.
Week 4
Woods delivered if you stuck with him in Week 4 fantasy lineups, finishing with 4 catches for 48 yards and a score. We don’t feel any better about his rest-of-way outlook after this one, though.

Three of Woods’ 4 catches, 30 of his yards and that TD came on the final drive of the game in garbage time. He had just 1 catch on 3 targets through 57 minutes.

Woods’ 6 total targets easily trailed WR Cooper Kupp’s 13 and were tied with WR Van Jefferson, TE Tyler Higbee and RB Darrell Henderson. Woods is now averaging 6.3 targets per game on an 18.5% target share. Last year, he was at 8.1 targets per game on a 21.9% share.

Woods isn’t playing very well, either. Pro Football Focus has him 73rd among 96 qualifying WRs in their receiving grades. Kupp is ranked 4th; Jefferson 37th.

Woods isn’t dead for fantasy football. But at this point, you should consider him just a WR3. The strength of the Rams’ offense at least helps his outlook going forward.
Week 3
The good news is that Woods ran the 2nd most routes on the team. This news is a big development for his future usage as through two weeks he was 4th behind Van Jefferson and Tyler Higbee. The issue for Woods is he continues to see about 6 targets a game. These lower targets have taken away his upside as he never has been a big TD scorer throughout his career.
Week 2
Woods played 2nd fiddle to Cooper Kupp again in Week 2. While Kupp exploded for a 9-163-2 line, Woods mustered a ho-hum 5-64. He also carried twice for 6 yards.

But there’s good news. Woods saw 9 targets, 2nd on the team and a big 30% of the team total. And after running a route on just 69% of pass plays in the opener, Woods was back to his usual 97% in Week 2.

The best news is that this Rams offense is rolling. QB Matt Stafford has racked up 599 yards and 5 TDs on a 70% completion rate and 10.7 yards per attempt. Even if Kupp is the clear #1 WR this season, more production will start funneling Woods’ way.

He also has a favorable schedule for the next 2 months. Woods’ next 7 opponents: Bucs, Cardinals, Seahawks, Giants, Lions, Texans and Titans.

He remains a solid WR2 if you own him. And if you don’t, we’d make a trade offer for Woods this week.
Week 1
This was a little bit of a confusing night for Robert Woods in his first game playing with Matt Stafford. Woods had a 68% route usage rate in this game against the Bears. Van Jefferson had a higher route usage rate, which is concerning for Woods. He only saw a total of 4 targets and 1 carry. Woods was able to save his fantasy owners day with a 2-yard TD late in the fourth quarter. We did see Woods lined up all over the field, including in the backfield. Woods finished the night with 3 catches for 27 yards and a score. He added 7 yards on 1 handoff out of the backfield.
Next up for the Rams is a very talented Colts defense who just held the Seahawks to 254 receiving yards. We have Woods ranked at WR23 this week against Indianapolis. Woods should see his role grow and he is able to line up all over the field and has shown that he is one of the most talented receivers in the game over the last few years. We have Woods ranked at WR18 for the rest of the season.

Basic Stats Preseason Player Analysis

What You Need to Know:

  • Woods posted a 90-936-6 receiving line last year, adding another 155 yards and 2 TDs on 24 carries.
  • He finished 13th among WRs in both PPR and non-PPR points.
  • Woods scored as a top-24 PPR WR in half of his games last year -- a rate beat by only 7 WRs.
  • That followed a WR14 PPR finish and WR21 non-PPR finish in 2019.
  • Woods ranked 10th across scoring formats in 2018.
  • Over the past 3 years, Woods ranks 6th among WRs in catches, 10th in yards and 28th in TDs.
  • He also ranks 2nd at his position in rushing yards and TDs over that span.
  • Woods has averaged the 12th most PPR points per game and the 15th most non-PPR points per game among WRs with 100+ targets over the last 3 seasons.
  • Woods returns to HC Sean McVay’s offense in 2021.
  • He gets a likely QB upgrade, going from Jared Goff to Matt Stafford. Stafford has earned a higher Pro Football Focus passing grade than Goff in 2 straight seasons and 3 of the last 4.
  • Stafford should help unlock more of Woods’ downfield ability after Goff struggled mightily in that department last year.
    • Goff’s Pro Football Focus grade on deep passes over the last 4 seasons: 90.6, 93.2, 85.2, 58.
    • Stafford’s deep-passing grades over the same span: 89.7, 92.7, 85.3, 93.0.
  • Woods averaged 13.9 and 14.2 yards per catch on 11.0 and 11.8-yard average depths of targets in 2017 and 2018. He sunk to 12.6 yards per catch on an 8.4-yard aDot in 2019. And last year, Woods averaged a career-low 10.4 yards per catch on a 6.8-yard aDot. That latter mark ranked 71st among 77 qualifying WRs.
  • The Rams lost WR Josh Reynolds and TE Gerald Everett in free agency. They ranked 3rd and 4th, respectively, on last year’s team with 81 and 62 targets.
  • L.A. added free-agent WR DeSean Jackson and rookie WR Tutu Atwell. WR Cooper Kupp and 2020 2nd-round WR Van Jefferson return.
  • Woods has averaged 8.1, 9.3 and 8.1 targets per game over the past 3 seasons. He projects for similar volume in 2021.

Draft Sharks Bottom Line:

Woods has finished 10th, 14th and 13th among WRs in PPR points the last 3 years; 10th, 21st and 13th in non-PPR. He returns to the same offense in 2021, projects for similar volume and gets a likely QB upgrade in Matt Stafford.

Woods should be good for borderline WR1 production again this season -- and again figures to be undervalued in fantasy drafts.

Rams HC Sean McVay said the kind of thing this week that fantasy football players want to hear about WR Robert Woods: "This guy's a stud in every sense of the word. It is important to be able to get a handful of guys involved. That's something that I always want to continue to be intentional about. ... When Robert's involved, that's a good thing for the Rams offense. That's something that we want to continue to see displayed, but Robert is a leader, he's a captain and he's been doing a great job up to this point. We just need to get him some more opportunities and that starts with me." Woods sits well behind leader Cooper Kupp but has still seen the 2nd most targets among Rams through 4 games. After seeing 6 targets or fewer in 3 of the first 4 games, though, perhaps he'll find more passes coming his way Thursday night at Seattle. The Seahawks have provided a high-upside matchup for opposing offenses so far, including spending more defensive snaps on the field than any other team. If your lineup decisions are close for Week 5, we'd lean toward giving Woods a shot.

Rams WR Robert Woods was added to the injury report and sidelined on Friday with a groin issue. He returned to a limited practice on Saturday and isn't listed on the final injury report. That means the Rams fully expect him to play against the Bears on Monday night. Woods can stay in fantasy lineups for now, but this is something to keep an eye on.

Rams WR Robert Woods is active for tonight’s game against the Ravens. He re-joined the team on Thursday and practiced all week, so expect him to play his usual every-down role tonight.

Rams WR Robert Woods rejoined the team Thursday and doesn't appear on the final injury report, but we don't know yet whether he'll play Monday against the Ravens. "It's looking good, but like we've said ... we're just taking it a day at a time," HC Sean McVay said Saturday, according to Pro Football Talk. "Things are looking good, but out of respect for him, with everything that is going on we just said, 'Let's just take it one day at a time, keep the main thing your family." McVay indicated it'll be up to Woods whether he can play Monday night without "inhibiting his ability" to tend to the family situation. We'll keep an eye out for early Sunday updates. For now, it seems like we'll have Woods back for fantasy use.
