BUY Jonathan Taylor, RB, Colts
Taylor makes for an interesting dynasty case. He has been pretty disappointing so far this season.
The rookie is averaging 3.9 yards per carry. He sits 22nd among 32 qualifying RBs in Football Outsiders’ rushing DVOA. Among 62 RBs with at least 32 carries, he sits 58th in Pro Football Focus’ elusive rating -- ahead of only Adrian Peterson, Giovani Bernard, Mark Ingram and Peyton Barber. Taylor checks in just 45th in the same group in overall PFF rushing grade.
But he has performed better as a receiver. Among 52 RBs who have seen 12+ targets, Taylor ranks 9th in receiving grade. He’s 8th in receiving DVOA among 43 qualifying backs.
Even if you preferred a RB or 2 over Taylor in this year’s draft class, no one had the guy pegged as a potential bust. So here’s the question to answer now: Is this Trent Richardson 2.0, or is Taylor’s lackluster start being overblown?
It’s at least worth checking to see if the Taylor owner in your league in panicking -- especially coming off a Jordan Wilkins 20-89-1 rushing performance vs. Detroit.
We’re still betting on the talent.
