Cardinals QB Kyler Murray will not return this season, according to HC Jonathan Gannon. Gannon commented that Murray isn’t progressing as the team hoped and thus will not be available at all this season. Murray suffered a mid-foot injury in Week 5 and was placed on IR on November 5th. Jacoby Brissett will QB the team for the rest of the season.
What They're Saying
Cardinals HC Jonathan Gannon: “Kyler Murray will not return this year. Had some tests out of state, foot is not progressing.”
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
The announcement comes after a disappointing season in which he never ranked higher than QB16 in any given week. He went into the season on the hot seat with his future in doubt if he didn’t show progress as a QB. Murray may have played his final game as an Arizona Cardinal.
Murray technically has two more years left on his deal, plus a club option for 2028. The Cardinals do have an out after this season and could put Murray on the trade block this offseason.
Even if Murray lands in a good situation, he will likely be a lower-end QB2 in fantasy drafts next year, especially early ones where his future is uncertain. With the number of QB-needy teams, however, he likely will get another chance to be a starter.
Dynasty Impact
Murray could be a sneaky (albeit risky) trade target in superflex dynasty leagues. His value is at an all-time low, but he likely will see a chance at being a starting QB somewhere in 2026.
