The Commanders have decided to shut down QB Jayden Daniels for the final three games of the season, according to multiple reports. That means Marcus Mariota will start the rest of the way.
What They're Saying
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport: "Daniels was re-evaluated [Monday] & not yet cleared. With him expected to be medically ruled out vs. the Eagles, then facing a short week vs. the Cowboys on Christmas, the final decision was made today."
2025 Fantasy Football Impact
Mariota posted limited fantasy production in Sunday's win over the Giants, but that was kinda by design.
Despite RB Chris Rodriguez going inactive for the game, Washington dropped back just 26 times vs. 32 designed runs. Mariota went a mere 10-of-19 passing for 211 yards, with 1 TD and 0 INTs.
That lands him 17th among fantasy QBs for the week as of this writing, with the Monday night game yet to go. His previous six starts this season produced fantasy finishes of:
That sets a nice base for Mariota expectations over the next two weeks. consider him a mid-level QB2 with upside.
The Week 16 home date with the Eagles doesn't look like one to target. Since the bye, Philly has allowed just one QB -- Dak Prescott in Week 12 -- to reach 16 fantasy points (by our default scoring system).
A Week 17 clash with the Cowboys could make Mariota a fantasy-playoff factor, though, if your primary QB faces a difficult matchup.
