The Panthers on Thursday agreed to a three-year extension with WR Jalen Coker that'll pay $35 million, with incentives that could push it to $41 million, according to multiple reports.
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
The biggest thing to note here is that Carolina didn't need to do this.
The Panthers already secured Coker for 2026 with a meager $1.075 million exclusive-rights free agent tender. And if he played out the year on that, Coker would still be just a restricted free agent next offseason. That means Carolina would be able to make sure he couldn't leave if it wanted to.
Instead, the team chose to pay the former undrafted free agent after just two pro seasons, and the deal allows him to hit the open market again at age 27.
Coker has ranked fourth and second on the team in receptions per game in his two seasons, while dealing with multiple injuries.
The contract says we should expect him to work as the clear No. 2 target behind Tetairoa McMillan in 2026. Whether that means enough volume to make Coker a meaningful fantasy asset remains to be seen.
The Panthers need improved play from QB Bryce Young before we can trust the team to support more than one fantasy-viable receiver.
Watch Coker as a potential waiver option, but he's not exciting as a redraft or best ball pick at this point.
Dynasty Impact
Stash Coker in your dynasty league.
The biggest thing working against him right now is Young. If the QB falters again this season, you can expect the Panthers to try to replace him ahead of the 2027 season.
Other Winners & Losers
If you haven't already dumped Xavier Legette from your dynasty roster, feel free to do so today.
This contract tells you at least a little about how much the 2024 first-round pick -- same year Coker arrived -- has disappointed the Panthers.
