The Commanders continue to head toward the season with little proven depth at WR behind Terry McLaurin. That looks like good news for TE Chig Okonkwo, as well as former Titans first-round pick Treylon Burks.
What They're Saying: TE with WR Skills
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler: "Chig Okonkwo is a tight end, but I would classify him as the de facto WR2 behind Terry McLaurin."
McLaurin: "He's a tight end who really runs routes like a receiver."
Okonkwo: "Having an expanded playbook, it's allowing me to use my speed down the field a lot more."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact: Talent Meets Opportunity
Okonkwo flashed his receiving ability in Tennessee, where he exceeded 50 catches each of the past three years. But modest yardage (10.4 per catch) and a dearth of TDs (8 total across four seasons) kept him from making much of a fantasy impact.
We'll have to see about Okonkwo's playing time. He finished each of the past three years between 60% and 66% of his team's total offensive snaps. Okonwko ranked just 25th among all tight ends in route share last year, at 57.9%.
That'll need to come up if he's to contribute regular fantasy help. But it should.
In addition to the positive reviews on his role and performance, Okonkwo signed a three-year deal that averages $9 million per season. That doesn't guarantee any specific level of involvement, but it sure makes him look like a key offensive piece.
Throw in an ADP of TE16 or lower across formats, and you've got a low-risk option with opportunity in an offense that should rebound now that QB Jayden Daniels is healthy.
Other Winners & Losers: And There's Room Beyond Okonkwo
Burks also looks worth remembering here.
He washed out after arriving in Tennessee via the first-round pick the team got by trading A.J. Brown to Philadelphia. But according to Fowler, "Burks' name comes up often when asking people here who will play a role in the passing game."
McLaurin adds that "he's made a lot of great plays early." And the competition has been:
- rookie Antonio Williams
- Dyami Brown
- Luke McCaffrey
- Jaylin Lane
- Van Jefferson
Washington had been heavily linked to Brandon Aiyuk before he went off his meds. And the team remains a subject of Stefon Diggs rumors. But there's opportunity available until/unless someone like that arrives.
Williams has also sprinkled in with the first-team offense recently and bears some late-round attention. Neither is likely to become a consistent fantasy starter, but consider them for deeper leagues.
