It's been clear for a while now that Travis Hunter will play a bigger role on Jacksonville's defense this year than last. It's been less clear what that will mean for his playing time on offense. But HC Liam Coen gave us a strong signal when talking about Hunter's role with ESPN's Jeremy Fowler recently.
What They're Saying: Packaged, Not Featured
Coen on the plans for Hunter on offense: "Quick screens, bubbles ... what that looks like as a rep count, I still have no clue. ... He's got to be able to know X, F, both those positions within the game plan and not the whole playbook. Third down, red zone, two minute, specific offenseive plays in the normal flow of the game, we will package him in, as opposed to, 'Look, bro, you've got to know the whole offense.' That was a little much last year."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact: Just A Handcuff
That's the clearest read we've gotten this offseason on Hunter's role. Coen wants him ready to play both outside (X) and in the slot (F), but only in packages rather than as part of the full playbook.
Hunter could still feasibly be targeted on a high rate of his routes, but this type of role would make him impossible to trust as a weekly fantasy starter.
He's shaping up as a WR handcuff who could become useful if Parker Washington, Brian Thomas Jr., or Jakobi Meyers misses time with an injury.
