The Steelers are sending CB Joey Porter Jr. to the Cowboys for a sixth-round pick in 2027 and a second-rounder in 2028. Porter has yet to see the field this season amid the acrimonious negotiations for a contract extension and an alleged back injury.
What They're Saying
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport: "We may actually see Joey Porter Jr. on the field this week."
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler: "The Cowboys ... assessed what was becoming a dire situation in the secondary and knew Porter would help immediately. Dallas is under the impression Porter will play out his rookie deal, and Porter plans to be on the field when ready, regardless of contract."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact: Minimal Until Proven Otherwise
There's not a lot of fantasy impact here.
Porter's arrival will obviously help Dallas' coverage, but he'll only cover one receiver at a time, and we'll have to see how quickly he gets into normal game shape.
In short: Don't adjust your passing-game expectations for the Cowboys matchup until we get some data on which to base those adjustments.
The Steelers, meanwhile, sit a strong seventh in total defensive DVOA and sixth against the pass through three games with their top CB sidelined. Doesn't seem like the trade will make for a huge loss.
Longer term, we'll see whether Porter gets extended or waits until the offseason like new/old teammate WR George Pickens.
