Jack Campbell Headshot

Lions LB Jack Campbell left Sunday's win over the Vikings on a stretcher after a scary neck injury. He and the team have declined to reveal details about the injury, but Campbell released a lengthy statement through the team Wednesday. The tone -- unsurprisingly -- sounds like a player with no designs on returning to the field this season.

What He's Saying

Campbell's statement (in part): "I'm incredibly encouraged by the progress I've made in such a short period of time. I have full movement in my lower body, and I'm continuing to make progress with movement in my upper body. I know there's still work ahead, but I remain very optimistic. I'm taking things one day at a time, staying positive, and focusing on getting better. My faith in God has never been stronger. I know He has a plan for me, and I trust in that plan. I know there may be challenges ahead, but with my faith, my family, and so many people in my corner, I know we'll get through this."

2026 Fantasy Football Impact: Rodriguez Looks Like the Pickup

I already had Campbell projected out of the Week 9 rankings but had been trying to wait for some official indication of the long-term timeline. I'm not sure we're going to get that, but this statement seems pretty close to assuring Campbell won't play again this season.

The Lions have said Malcolm Rodriguez and Trevor Nowaske will factor into the Campbell replacement plan. We'll have to see exactly what their snap shares look like.

Campbell played 77% of the defensive snaps before leaving Sunday. Rodriguez looked more like the direct replacement, playing 28% of the snaps. Nowaske started alongside Campbell and Derrick Barnes and played 49%.

Rookie LB Jimmy Rolder also jumped in for a 32% snap share after playing just seven total defensive snaps before Week 8. But he suffered a season-ending hamstring injury.

Rodriguez has flashed IDP upside in the past and looks like the more interesting stash to me. Nowaski has played 11 more snaps this season but has yet to exceed a 66% snap share in a game since joining the Lions in 2023.

I'll be watching for updates on Campbell's longer-term prognosis.
