NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the Browns will be signing S John Johnson. The former Ram finished 3 of the past 4 years among the top 11 safeties in Pro Football Focus grading. His signing likely means Cleveland doesn't view Ronnie Harrison as starter material for 2021. We'd bet they hope 2020 second-round pick Grant Delpit is ready to start next to Johnson. Delpit missed all of his rookie season with a torn Achilles' tendon, so we'll have to see about his readiness this summer. He and Johnson would make for a nice pair at the position, each with versatility to play multiple roles in the formation.
Browns rookie S Grant Delpit suffered a torn Achilles' tendon Monday and will miss the season, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports. That had been the fear, and MRI confirmed the injury. Sheldrick Redwine looks like the next guy up, but we'll keep an eye on the replacement plan. S Karl Joseph, meanwhile, gets a boost in tackle upside.
Update: Scott Petrak of the Chronicle-Telegram reports that Andrew Sendejo is getting the 1st shot at replacing Delpit. We'll see whether the Browns sign another competitor.
Browns rookie S Grant Delpit left the practice field Monday on a cart after suffering a leg injury. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the team fears an Achilles’ tendon injury. We’ll see what the testing says. The injury would take a high-upside IDP option out a Cleveland defense that could use the playmaker and versatility
The Browns selected S Grant Delpit in Round 2 of the NFL Draft. The LSU alum dealt with a high-ankle sprain in 2019 and saw his performance and production slip. Delpit posted his best season as a 2018 sophomore, including 74 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, 9 passes defensed and 5 INTs. Delpit defensed 7+ passes in each of his 3 seasons. Cleveland provides him the opportunity to start right away. Delpit will be worth a look in dynasty rookie drafts and could land inside the top 36 when our 2020 IDP rankings come out.
