Packers EDGE Preston Smith (shoulder, neck) is active for today's game against the Lions.

The Packers have ruled LB De'Vondre Campbell (knee) out for Sunday's game against the Lions. DC Joe Barry said earlier in the week that rookie LB Quay Walker would take over play-calling duties if Campbell couldn't go. That should mean full playing time for Walker, who has moved up our Week 9 IDP rankings. EDGE Preston Smith (shoulder, neck) is questionable for the game after being limited in practice all week.

The Packers have inked a 4-year extension with EDGE Preston Smith that includes $52.5 million in new money, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Smith had 1 year remaining on his previous deal with no guaranteed money, which had led to him being mentioned as a cut candidate. The new contract lowers his 2022 cap number while securing Smith into his 30s.

Packers S Darnell Savage (concussion) is active for today's game against Washington. OLB Preston Smith (oblique) and CB Kevin King (shoulder) are out.

Packers OLB Preston Smith (shoulder) is active for today's game against the Texans. He's a low-level IDP but available if you had him in your plans.

The Packers have reached a 4-year agreement with OLB Preston Smith that includes $16 million guaranteed at signing (full value: $52 million), according to ESPN's Josina Anderson. That gives Green Bay a pair of expensive new edge defenders, after the team also reached a deal with Za'Darius Smith. Green Bay will also release OLB Nick Perry, and Clay Matthews would seem to be done as well -- given the signings. (He's an unrestricted free agent.) The new guys should help revamp a pass rush that needed upgrades, but neither Smith has exceeded 8.5 sacks in a season to date. Neither looks like a forthcoming IDP stud, but each has matchup-starter potential for fantasy football purposes.

Washington ILB Will Compton (hip), OLB Preston Smith (groin) and DE Chris Baker (ankle) are all active for today's game against the Eagles. Compton is the top IDP factor among the trio, but the presence of all 3 helps the team D in an upside matchup.

Washington DE Chris Baker (ankle), ILB Will Compton (hip) and OLB Preston Smith (groin) are all questionable for Sunday's game in Philadelphia. Baker missed the 1st 2 days of practice this week before putting in a limited Friday workout. He looks too risky to be worth using in IDP lineups. Compton and Smith each put in limited practices the 1st 2 days before full workouts Friday and should be fine to treat as normal if they're active.

Washington OLB Junior Galette tore his right Achilles' tendon and is expected to miss the season, the Washington Times reports. Galette missed all of last season after tearing his left Achilles' tendon in August but re-signed in March and had apparently been progressing well. Washington could use the pass rush help, but the defense should have Ryan Kerrigan and 2nd-year man Preston Smith set to start on the edges for 2016. Losing Galette doesn't alter the outlook for a defense that already sits well outside of starter territory for fantasy football drafts.

Washington OLB Ryan Kerrigan left Sunday's game against the Bucs early with a broken hand and won't return. Washington gets a bye in Week 8, so we'll see if Kerrigan's playing with a club after that. His absence should create more playing time for promising rookie OLB Preston Smith.

Washington OLB Junior Galette tore his left Achilles' tendon near the end of Wednesday's practice. ESPN's John Keim reports that Galette faces a 6-to-8-month rehab. Second-year man Trent Murphy is the next guy up in Galette's place opposite OLB Ryan Kerrigan. A quick emergence from rookie Preston Smith would certainly help, though. Washington's D looks likely to remain among the league's weaker units. Murphy and Smith will need to prove that they bring some IDP intrigue before you should bother with them.

Washington used its 2nd-round pick Friday night on DE Preston Smith, who some draftniks rated as high as a top-15 prospect. Smith played DE and DT at Mississippi State but most likely projects as a 3-4 DE in Washington's system. He scored well in the athletic metrics after the Scouting Combine and racked up 9 sacks and 15 tackles for loss as a senior. Smith looks like a potential IDP sleeper in dynasty rookie drafts.
