The Saints have placed RB Shane Vereen on IR. He reportedly injured his hand in Thursday night's preseason finale. The 29-year-old mustered just 3.1 yards per carry and 4.6 yards per catch this preseason. New Orleans will run with Alvin Kamara, Jonathan Williams and Boston Scott atop the RB depth chart to open the season.

The Saints have signed RB Shane Vereen. The 29-year-old racked up 44 catches for the Giants last year, although he averaged just 5.8 yards per catch. He also has 47-, 52- and 59-catch campaigns on his resume. New Orleans has now added Vereen and Terrance West to a backfield that also includes Trey Edmunds, Jonathan Williams and Boston Scott behind Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram. There's early-season opportunity with Ingram suspended for the first 4 games, but Vereen seemingly has an overlapping skill set with Kamara. He's not worth a roster spot in fantasy leagues right now.

Giants RB Shane Vereen (calf) isn't listed on the final Week 4 injury report. He didn't practice on Wednesday or Thursday, but it looks like that was precautionary. Vereen remains just a desperation PPR play for this weekend's game against the Bucs. He has 14 catches on 15 targets through 3 games -- but just 7 carries.

Giants RB Shane Vereen missed his 2nd straight practice on Thursday with a calf injury. It looks like he's in danger of missing this weekend's game against the Bucs. Ditto for RB Orleans Darkwa, who's been sidelined this week with a back problem. If both guys are out, New York would be down to RBs Paul Perkins and Wayne Gallman.

According to ESPN's Jordan Ranaan, Giants RB Paul Perkins hasn't "blown anyone away with his performance this summer." That, of course, comes across as a euphemism for: Perkins looks disappointing. The team has been counting on Perkins to lead the backfield in his 2nd season after it let Rashad Jennings go in the offseason. But Orleans Darkwa is reportedly pushing for more work and has already been splitting recent 1st-team reps. Shane Vereen also could add more carries to a profile that should already include leading the group in receptions. We'd still bet on Perkins leading the team in carries this season -- as of now -- but the Giants seem headed for more of a committee approach than they probably hoped heading into camp. And Perkins looks more like the bench fodder that his fantasy football draft price has made him so far than a potential mid-round steal. We'll see if he can step it up.

Giants HC Ben McAdoo on Monday told reporters that RB Paul Perkins is the team's backfield starter, according to Pro Football Talk. That's no shocking revelation, but it's notable that McAdoo talks about the 2nd-year back that way rather than saying he'll need to earn the top job. Perkins followed an impressive run at UCLA by not leading the Giants in carries until Week 16. But he did finish the year starting over Rashad Jennings, including the playoff loss at Green Bay. The team drafted Clemson RB Wayne Gallman over the weekend, but he doesn't bring NFL-starter talent. And Jennings remains unsigned. RB Shane Vereen is still around and should claim plenty of receiving work -- if he can stay healthy (a big "if"). But early fantasy drafters should treat Perkins as the top back in what could easily be a top-10 scoring and yardage offense.

Giants RB Shane Vereen re-tore his tricep in Sunday's win over the Lions. It's been a rough season for the 27-year-old. He 1st tore the tricep in Week 3, suffered a concussion in his return in Week 14 and then tore the tricep again yesterday. Vereen is done for the season, leaving Rashad Jennings, Paul Perkins and Bobby Rainey in New York's backfield.

Giants RB Shane Vereen (concussion) is active for today’s game against the Lions. He can’t be trusted in fantasy lineups but puts a dent in RB Rashad Jennings’ receiving projection.

The forecast for today's Lions-Giants game calls for a 65% chance of rain with winds of 10-20 mph. Not ideal. It's especially concerning for Lions QB Matt Stafford, who will be playing with an injured middle finger on his throwing hand. He's no better than a mid-range QB2 for Week 15.

Giants RB Shane Vereen has cleared the concussion protocol and will play against the Lions on Sunday. He lasted just 3 snaps in his return last weekend but was targeted twice. Vereen could be stepping back into a significant pass-catching role, but he can't be trusted in Week 15 fantasy lineups.

Giants RB Shane Vereen (concussion) is questionable for this weekend’s game against the Lions. HC Ben McAdoo said Friday that Vereen is still in the protocol. We’ll see if he can get cleared by Sunday, but Vereen shouldn’t be in Week 15 fantasy lineups.

Giants RB Shane Vereen (concussion) was on the practice field on Wednesday. He's making quick progress through the protocol after being concussed on Sunday night. Vereen won't be a viable Week 15 fantasy option, but his presence would put a dent in RB Rashad Jennings' projections.

Giants RB Shane Vereen left in the 2nd quarter of Sunday night's win over the Cowboys with a concussion. It was his 1st action following a triceps tear that cost him 9 games. Vereen did draw 2 targets before leaving, which tied for 2nd most on the team in the 1st half. The departure makes it tough to know how big a role he would have ended up playing. Add the uncertainty of his progression through the concussion protocol and Vereen's not worth owning in most fantasy football redraft leagues.

Giants RB Shane Vereen sustained a concussion in the 1st half of Sunday night's game against the Cowboys. It was his 1st game back after missing the previous 9 with a torn triceps. This is the 1st known concussion of Vereen's career. We'll track his progress through the protocol this week, but he's only worth rostering in deep PPR leagues.

Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) is active for tonight's game against the Cowboys. He can't be trusted in fantasy lineups in his 1st action since Week 3, but his return puts a dent in RB Rashad Jennings' receiving projection.

The Giants on Saturday activated RB Shane Vereen, making him eligible to play in Sunday night's game against the Cowboys. They'd have little reason to do so if they didn't plan to use him at all, though it's tough to know just how much Vereen might play in his 1st action since Week 4. Adding Vereen to an already inconsistent backfield only makes it tougher to trust any Giants RB in fantasy lineups this weekend.

Giants RB Shane Vereen (triceps) returned to practice on Wednesday. The G-Men now have 3 weeks to activate him from IR. Vereen is a long shot to play vs. the Steelers this Sunday but could be back for Week 14. He averaged 10.3 carries and 4.3 targets over the first 3 games of the season and could return to a similar role.
