The Chargers on Friday placed DE Melvin Ingram on IR. That means he'll miss at least the next 3 games. It also marks the 2nd time this season that knee trouble has landed Ingram on IR. It's not clear yet whether this is the same issue. But you shouldn't count on Ingram returning to help your IDP lineup. The team has also ruled DE Uchenna Nwosu out for Sunday's game against the Bills. That likely means Isaach Rochell starting opposite Joey Bosa. The Chargers have also ruled CB Casey Hayward (groin) out for the Buffalo game.
Chargers DE Melvin Ingram is doubtful for Sunday's game against the Panthers. Ingram put in full practices Wednesday and Thursday but then suddenly sat out Friday with a knee injury. HC Anthony Lynn called it knee soreness that worsened from Thursday to Friday, according to Daniel Popper of The Athletic. Ingram's absence should put Uchenna Nwosu into the starting lineup.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Chargers DE Melvin Ingram will "likely" miss a couple more weeks with the hamstring injury that knocked him out in the 1st quarter of Sunday's win at Miami. That leaves the defense without 1 of its top 2 pass-rushers. Uchenna Nwosu looks like Ingram's replacement after playing a career-high 79% of the snaps against the Dolphins.
The Chargers picked up USC EDGE player Uchenna Nwosu in the 2nd round of the NFL Draft. Nwosu delivered 9.5 sacks among 11.5 tackles for loss as a senior. He also defensed a whopping 13 passes. Pro Football Focus credited him with the class' most QB hits and batted passes. We'll see whether the Chargers view Nwosu as an OLB in their 4-3 base front or a DE.
