Saints TE Dan Arnold is inactive for today's game against the Bucs. He wasn't on the injury report, so it looks like he's a healthy scratch. That's a surprise after Arnold's role had grown in recent weeks. His absence leaves Josh Hill and Ben Watson at TE. Neither is a reliable fantasy play.
Saints TE Josh Hill injured his ankle in the 1st half of Sunday's game against the Lions. He headed back to the locker room and is officially questionable to return. His absence would be good news for TE Coby Fleener.
Saints insider Nick Underhill calls TE Josh Hill's performance in training camp so far "underwhelming." He wasn't very involved in the passing game early, missed a few days with an undisclosed injury and dropped the 1st pass thrown to him on Monday. Hill is listed as the #2 TE behind Ben Watson on New Orleans' initial depth chart. We'll see if he can pick things up in preseason action, but Hill looks like just a late-round flier in fantasy drafts right now.
Saints TE Benjamin Watson has been the standout out his position so far in training camp, according to Larry Holder of The Times-Picayune. Offseason fantasy darling Josh Hill has missed time with an undisclosed injury, helping Watson get more 1st-team reps. But Holder writes that Watson "received plenty more opportunities in the passing game even when Hill was healthy" in spring workouts. The 34-year-old TE has always presented good speed and athleticism for his position and has scored 4 TDs among just 39 catches over his 2 Saints seasons. Even if Hill passes Watson on the depth chart once he returns, Watson at least stands as a reason to temper your fantasy expectations for Hill.
