The Upside Pick in Every Round

By Kevin English 2:08pm EDT 8/27/19

You don't want to just win your fantasy league. You wanna crush your fellow owners. Make them not wanna play in the league next year. Maybe quit fantasy football altogether.

If you're looking to build that super team, here are the high-upside, league-crushing players to target in each of the first 10 rounds …

1st Round - Odell Beckham, WR, Browns

Beckham finished as a top-4 PPR WR in each of his first 3 pro seasons. He ranked #1 in points per game as a 2014 rookie.

Going back to the AFL-NFL merger, few have turned in better rookie seasons. Beckham’s 91 catches have been topped by only Michael Thomas and Anquan Boldin. His 1,305 yards have been surpassed by only Boldin and Randy Moss. And only Moss and John Jefferson have exceeded Beckham’s 12 TDs.

Of course, Beckham has faded a bit in recent seasons. But he’s back healthy now and set to play with the best QB of his career. As one measure of talent, Mayfield ranked 2nd league-wide last year in big-time throw rate, per Pro Football Focus. Here’s how PFF defines that stat:

In its simplest terms, a big-time throw is on the highest end of both difficulty and value. While the value is easy to see statistically, the difficulty has more to do with passes that have a lower completion percentage the further the ball is thrown downfield. Therefore, the big-time throw is best described as a pass with excellent ball location and timing, generally thrown further down the field and/or into a tighter window.

So we have an accurate QB willing to take downfield shots — and an electric WR poised for massive volume.

As long as OBJ’s health cooperates — he’s missed time in camp with a hip injury that’s seemingly minor — overall WR1 potential will remain.
