Nice rebound week for us in this space last week, where all 3 selections delivered starter-level fantasy production. And we might even get further usage from them -- especially if Titans TE Delanie Walker remains out, which would keep Jonnu Smith in the lineup.
Let’s see if we can find multi-week answers from the Week 9 crop …
QB: Derek Carr, Raiders (28.4% owned in ESPN leagues)
I’ll be honest: This one’s really a toss-up.
First off, Gardner Minshew -- who sits even higher in our Week 9 rankings than Carr -- is now too widely owned to qualify (59%). So it’s Carr vs. Sam Darnold (at Miami) and Jimmy Garoppolo (at Arizona). And I could see those 3 finishing in any order.
I’ll break the tie by first eliminating Darnold, who’s playing worst among the 3 at the moment and dealing with both (left) thumb and toe injuries. The remaining teams head into Week 9 with matching Vegas-implied projected points of 26.25. Garoppolo hits the road with the league’s most run-heavy offense. Carr heads home after a big Week 8 (285 yards, 3 TDs at Houston) to face a Detroit defense that just allowed Daniel Jones to post the league’s top QB score of the week.
So we’ll settle on Carr, who has delivered 2 straight passer ratings over 119, leads the league in completion rate for the season and finally got lead WR Tyrell Williams back Sunday.
Bonus: Carr follows Detroit with 2 more potentially usable home matchups against the Chargers and Bengals.
Last week’s pick: Ryan Tannehill (QB12 finish)
