Texans rookie RB Woody Marks led the team with 10 carries in Monday night's loss at Seattle. He added 3 catches for 20 yards and a TD on five targets, also leading Nick Chubb in that area. Chubb ran for 16 yards on five carries and caught one of three targets for a five-yard loss.
Houston opened the game alternating series between its top two RBs, and neither found much success.
Marks edged Chubb 4-3 in first-half carries. But he managed just 13 yards (3.3 per rush), with nearly all of that coming via an 11-yard, first-down run midway through the second quarter.
Chubb added a mere 7 yards on his three attempts but drew three targets to Marks' one before halftime.
The Texans opened the second half trailing by 8, ceded a FG to their host early in the third quarter, and scored their only points defensively until Marks' late-game TD.
The rookie did make a solid catch in the end zone for those points. He also appeared to get up quite gingerly, but we haven't seen any report of injury coming out of the game.
Houston also targeted Marks and handed him the ball on the two previous plays, each starting from the Seattle 3-yard line.
The fourth-round pick clearly benefited in the second half from Houston playing in trail mode. But that versatility edge over Chubb also keeps Marks the better fantasy play going forward.
His receiving could prove even more important with WR Nico Collins looking likely to miss at least Week 8 after suffering a late-game concussion. A Week 9 clash with Denver's difficult pass defense also could boost Marks' profile.
Ultimately, he's a decent fringe-RB2 prospect -- especially in full-PPR formats.
