The Giants are releasing veteran LB Bobby Okereke ahead of the final year on his contract. The move clears $9 million in cap space, according to Spotrac. Okereke started 46 of 51 games across three seasons after arriving from the Colts in free agency, sitting out five weeks in 2024.
What They're Saying
SumerSports: "Bobby Okereke has the 2nd highest Coverage SumerScore amongst Free Agent Linebackers."
Bobby Williams of Giants Nation Show: "Was looking at some numbers & cutups of Bobby Okereke from 2023 and had a truly great season that year. Just didn't get that the last 2 years."
ESPN's Jordan Raanan: "Expect Giants to be aggressive in finding a replacement. Okereke was a defensive captain who had 143 tackles this past season."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
The only non-edge LBs remaining on the Giants roster are Darius Muasau and Chris Board.
Muasau arrived as a sixth-round pick in 2024. He officially started 18 games over the past two years but reached 70% playing time on only eight occasions. Board's a 30-year-old career special-teamer.
NFL free agency holds a range of LB options, including Micah McFadden (who spent the past four years with the Giants). The rookie class also looks solidly deep at the position.
We'll see who the Giants land as their new lead LB. Bet on someone not currently rostered over Muasau taking charge.
Okereke will turn 30 ahead of the coming season and now must deal with that crowded LB market. We'll see whether he lands another starting gig for 2026 or has to settle for a camp battle (or worse).
