Chigoziem Okonkwo was commended for the standout training camp he’s had by Commanders Senior Writer Zach Selby in a recent article, but Selby noted that “...the tight ends were not used much in the passing game during the offensive periods that I watched (team red zone, third-down emphasis, and two-minute).”
2026 Fantasy Football Impact: Flashes, Not Fantasy Points
Okonkwo signed a three-year, $27 million contract with the Commanders this offseason after spending his first four seasons with the Titans.
Okonkwo has shown flashes since entering the NFL, in particular when he held a 26.7% target rate in his rookie season. But he’s yet to put it together, having never posted at least a 10.0 fantasy points per game (PPG) season, while his target rate has dropped each season since.
Okonkwo still brings some intrigue. He’s a higher-end athlete at the position, has earned at least a 13% target share in each of the past three seasons, and now sits atop a new depth chart with Jayden Daniels at QB.
Still, his lack of fantasy success so far and the latest training camp report on his limited passing-game usage suggest Okonkwo won’t be much of a fantasy factor again.
