Ty Simpson Headshot

Ty Simpson showed plenty of promise in his preseason debut, completing 21 of 25 passes for 190 yards and 2 TDs. Afterward, Rams’ head coach Sean McVay praised Simpson’s “good command” of the offense and said he “...did a really good job overall,” per Sarah Barshop of ESPN.

2026 Fantasy Football Impact: Great Debut, Little Urgency

Simpson won’t be expected to do much of anything in his rookie season, and if he is, something has gone tremendously wrong for the Rams.

When the team drafted him with the 13th pick this past April, it was with the idea that he would get at least a year sitting behind 38-year-old Matthew Stafford. Still, that kind of draft capital naturally creates eagerness to see the Alabama product play.

In his first chance in a game setting, he flashed why he was selected so high, passing for over 150 yards and 2 TDs.

Simpson will start for the Rams at some point over the coming seasons, but in the immediate future, he’s battling for the backup QB spot with Stetson Bennett.
