Blake Jarwin Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

The Cowboys released TE Blake Jarwin with an injury settlement. It's not a surprising move after recent reports that Jarwin underwent major hip surgery that's expected to cost him the start of the 2022 season. We'll see if another team takes a shot on him before then, but Jarwin isn't worth a pick in early best-ball drafts.

Cowboys TE Blake Jarwin had hip surgery in late February that's "very uncommon for an active NFL player," a source tells The Athletic's Michael Gehlken. "He is not expected to be available for the start of the 2022 season, clouding his Cowboys future," Gehlken adds. Jarwin tore his ACL in September 2020. He was ready for the start of the 2021 campaign but went down with a hip injury in Week 8 that ended his season. We'll monitor his rehab this offseason, but he's not worth a pick in early best-ball drafts. Jarwin's situation probably makes it more likely that Dallas does what it has to do to bring back impending free-agent TE Dalton Schultz.

The Cowboys have placed TE Blake Jarwin on IR with his hip injury. That means he'll miss at least the next 3 games, which can only help the target outlook for TE Dalton Schultz. Sean McKeon and Jeremy Sprinkle sit behind him on the depth chart.

Cowboys TE Blake Jarwin (hip) is out for Sunday’s game vs. the Broncos. He’s averaged 2.1 targets per game on the season and just 1 per game over the last 3, so this is just a slight boost for TE Dalton Schultz.

Cowboys TE Dalton Schultz missed the team's 2nd preseason game with a "minor" ankle sprain, according to the Dallas Morning News' Michael Gehlken. "Fully expected to be ready for start of season," Gehlken adds. We'll see when Schultz is able to get back on the field, but his absence will give TE Blake Jarwin a shot to lay claim to the starting job.

Cowboys TE Blake Jarwin was left off the PUP list to open training camp. It's excellent news after last September's torn ACL and confirms that the team expects him to be ready for the start of the season. Jarwin got a nice 4-year, $22 million deal last offseason and was set to serve as Dallas' starting TE before that knee injury. Assuming he's back to 100%, Jarwin should get that chance again in 2021. He faces stiff target competition in WRs Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup -- but the strength of the Cowboys passing game gives Jarwin top-12 fantasy upside.

Cowboys TE Blake Jarwin (knee) isn't participating in OTAs but expects to be ready for the start of training camp. "I'll just keep pushing along, and I anticipate, Day 1 of training camp, being ready to roll," he said. Jarwin will be just about a full year removed from his torn ACL come Week 1. One of our favorite 2020 breakout candidates, Jarwin is coming even cheaper in fantasy drafts this year and still carries intriguing upside.

Cowboys TE Blake Jarwin has been diagnosed with a "clean" ACL tear, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Jarwin is done for 2020 but should make a full recovery for the start of the 2021 campaign. His absence leaves Dalton Schultz atop the TE depth chart. He struggled in Sunday night's loss to the Rams and is only worth stashing in deep and TE-premium leagues. The loss of Jarwin figures to mean more targets for Dallas' WRs and RBs.

The Cowboys believe TE Blake Jarwin tore his right ACL in Sunday's game against the Rams, according to insider Michael Gehlken. If that's the case, Jarwin will miss the rest of the 2020 campaign. That'd leave Dalton Schultz as Dallas' top TE. He's not an exciting talent, but the strength of Dallas' offense might make him a spot-start option in fantasy football. Jarwin's absence might also just mean more targets for WRs Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb.

Cowboys TE Blake Jarwin suffered a non-contact knee injury in the 2nd quarter of Sunday night's game against the Rams. He's officially questionable to return. Stay tuned for updates.

Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy talked up TE Blake Jarwin on Sunday. “I think Blake is going to make a real impact on our offense," McCarthy said. "The ability to attack the middle of the field, in my view, is always critical to the passing game ... I’ve been so impressed with him and really the entire tight end group.” Jarwin has been efficient on somewhat limited opportunities over the past couple of seasons but gets a big opportunity in 2020 with Jason Witten gone. At a TE17 ADP, Jarwin is 1 of our favorite targets at the position.

The Cowboys and TE Blake Jarwin have agreed to a 3-year, $24.25 million extension with $9.25 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. That makes Jarwin a heavy favorite to operate as Dallas' lead TE in 2020. The 25-year-old has totaled 58 catches, 672 yards and 6 TDs over the last 2 seasons, posting a 75.3% catch rate and 11.6 yards per catch. His fantasy upside would get a boost if Dallas loses WR Amari Cooper in free agency.

Cowboys WR Cole Beasley (ankle) and TE Blake Jarwin (ankle) are active for tonight's game against the Rams. Both guys figure to be at far less than 100% after missing practice all week.

Cowboys TE Blake Jarwin (ankle) and WR Cole Beasley (ankle) each enter today questionable. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the "plan is for both to work out pregame and both be active," adding that Jarwin "has a better chance to play." Beasley's not worth waiting on for fantasy use. Even if he's active, he'll face a tough coverage matchup in slot CB Nickell Robey-Coleman, Pro Football Focus' highest-graded Rams corner. Jarwin will be worth DFS consideration against a Rams D that allowed the 10th most TE receptions this season. He'd obviously still carry durability risk, though. We'll confirm their statuses 90 minutes before kickoff.

Cowboys TE Blake Jarwin (ankle) is listed as questionable for Saturday's game against the Rams. He didn't practice all week. An unexciting fantasy option to begin with, Jarwin will come with elevated risk if he ends up active. If not, rookie Dalton Schultz will be left as Dallas' lead TE.

According to Calvin Watkins of The Athletic, the Cowboys have been splitting 1st-team TE reps evenly among Blake Jarwin, Dalton Schultz and Geoff Swaim. That, of course, makes it difficult for fantasy drafters to decide which -- if any -- to consider in the late rounds of best-ball drafts. Rico Gathers remains in the picture as well but doesn't really seem to be in the starting mix. We'd avoid the whole situation in current redraft formats and wait for a starter to emerge in the preseason.

Bryan Broaddus of Cowboys.com singled out WR Michael Gallup and TE Blake Jarwin when asked to name which pass-catchers have been in sync with QB Dak Prescott this spring. Dallas' WR and TE corps will look much different this season after the departures of Dez Bryant and Jason Witten, who combined for 44.4% of the team's targets last year. Gallup, a 3rd-round rookie with an impressive combination of athleticism and college production, has a shot to emerge as the Cowboys' #1 WR in 2018. And Jarwin is in the mix for a significant role with Rico Gathers, Geoff Swaim and Dalton Schultz as his only competition. We'll be keeping a close eye on this pass-catching group all summer.
