ESPN's Michelle TaFoya reports from Nashville that RB Chris Johnson could be split out wide and play some WR tonight vs. Indy... if WRs Justin Gage (knee) and Justin McCareins (hamstring) can't go. Gage was expected to play but might have had a small setback with his knee.

Titans RB Chris Johnson carried 19 times for 77 yards and 1 TD vs. the Colts. He also added 4 catches for 19 yards. He never busted the big runs because the Colts were doing some terrific tackling. Johnson did have a fumble but the Titans snapped the ball before the Colts could challenge it. He did line up at WR (just like ESPN's Michelle TaFoya predicted) but only for 2 plays. Johnson has 4 TDs in the last 4 weeks. He's ranked 5th in rushing with 626 yards - despite never carrying the ball 20 times yet.

Titans RB Chris Johnson won the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Month award for September. Johnson is 7th in the NFL in rushing (337) and has scored 3 TDs.

Titans RB LenDale White carried 16 times for 49 yards and 2 TDs in the 31-12 win over Houston. Chris Johnson carried 16 times for 74 yards. It's an RBBC and White will continue to gobble anything inside the 5-yard line. He has 4 TD runs on the season. Titans RB Chris Johnson carried 15 times for 93 yards and caught a 7-yard TD in his first pro game. LenDale White was actually introduced out of the tunnel with the starters - but Johnson was out there on the first play. His first carry was an 18-yarder. He almost went 77 yards to the house. Johnson had leg cramps throughout the 2nd half (muggy heat index in Nashville) and went to the locker room in the 4th quarter. Then, on a 3rd-and-6 from the Jags 22-yard line Johnson came out of the tunnel, threw a helmet on, and ran out there as the huddle was already breaking. The crowd was going nuts. He ran a flare pattern with 2 Jaguars following him, and Justin Gage was left wide open for a 21-yard catch. All the things our inside source said about Johnson this summer -- "Look guys, the kid’s just a bad--s," or "His speed, man, it blows your mind, you gotta see it to believe it" -- they were all true. This kid looked like the complete package while facing a brutal defense in his NFL debut.

The Titans' piled up 340 rushing yards and 3 rush TDs against the Rams tonight. Starting RB Lendale White looked good on the team's 1st possession, gaining 33 yards on 6 carries. Rookie RB Chris Johnson came in next and exploded for a 66-yard TD. He finished with 6 carries for 77 yards. RB Chris Henry followed Johnson and racked up 38 yards on 9 carries. 4-string rookie RB Quinton Ganther had the most impressive night of all, finishing with 8 carries for 115 yards and 2 TDs , although it came against the Rams' 3rd-string defense. QB Vince Young chipped in a 35-yard scamper. Tennessee's offensive line, from the 1st-string to the 3rd-string, looked really impressive tonight.

Titans HC Jeff Fisher: "I probably should clarify things right now as far as the starting running back position is concerned. We’re going to use a number of running backs, and the starter, as far as I’m concerned, will be the guy that plays the first play in the game, not because one has earned the privilege to start over another. It’ll be based on what we decide to do as an offensive staff to start the game...as it looks right now, it’s going to be LenDale [White] and it’s going to be Chris [Johnson], and we’re going to interchange them throughout the game and back them up with the other guys." Sounds like it could be a 50-50 split between Lendale White and rookie Chris Johnson. Johnson's hype-meter was off the charts before his 66-yard TD run on Saturday night. Now it's just out of control.

The Tennessean reports RB Chris Johnson has been special in spring workouts: "Before, during and after minicamp practice sessions, Johnson has looked the part of a first-round draft choice. He accelerates through traffic. He cuts on a dime. He catches passes effortlessly. Just as important, he has grasped the nuances of OC Mike Heimerdinger's offense." Heimerdinger also commented on the 1st round pick from East Carolina:  "I haven't had a back quite like him to work with. He can do a lot of things from a lot of spots. It gives you some options... some matchups." We're hearing more and more good things about Johnson as he climbs higher on the Rookie Hype Meter. We're preparing to raise his projections (and lower LenDale White's) if necessary.

Titans RB Chris Johnson is generating all the usual rookie running back hype -- "He's picking up the blitz" or "catching everything in sight" or "hitting the holes with authority" and all that -- but we have a source close to the team who's front-row for most camp practices. "His speed, man, it blows your mind.. you gotta see it to believe it," our source said. "He's the whole package and everybody knows it." Titans OC Mike Heimerdinger was on the radio yesterday comparing Chris Johnson to Clinton Portis when he came out. Heimerdinger even added, "I also hope he can carry the ball 15 to 20 times a game." We've raised Johnson's projections in anticipation of a twin-back offense like the Saints have used so well.

Titans RB LenDale White says rookie RB Chris Johnson (East Carolina) reminds him of Reggie Bush. "It gives us a one-two punch,'' White said. "After I bang 'em up for so long, you get him in there and he can run by them. At USC, Reggie ran by them and I ran through them. It was a good one-two combination because you had defenses having to prepare for two different style backs. It was like that with me and Reggie and it can be like that with me and Chris." Johnson, who ran an electronic 4.24 at the Combine, might be even faster than Bush... but his college resume' isn't nearly as impressive.
