Knile Davis Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

The Steelers have signed RB Knile Davis. It's notable if only because RB DeAngelo Williams remains a free agent. Another Le'Veon Bell injury could find Davis as the lead back in a high-scoring offense. We emphasize "could," though, because he's certainly no lock to win the backup gig. Davis has failed to top 3.5 yards per carry in any of his 4 NFL seasons.

The Chiefs on Saturday re-signed RB Knile Davis. He spent 2 games doing little with the Packers after they traded for him and then briefly joined the Jets before they dropped him again for C.J. Spiller. This is obviously the best spot he's been in all season, with the offense he'd spent his whole career playing in. Davis will likely be the #2 RB behind Charcandrick West in Sunday's game against Jacksonville. Of course, just how many touches that might actually mean would be anyone's guess. We'll see if Davis retains his job once Spencer Ware returns from his concussion.

The Packers have released RB Knile Davis, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. That was quick. Acquired on October 18, Davis carried only 5 times for 5 yards across 2 games. Green Bay is left with Don Jackson and James Starks at RB (plus hybrid player Ty Montgomery). Starks hasn’t played since Week 5 due to a knee injury.

Packers RB Knile Davis is active for tonight's game against the Bears. He was acquired just a couple of days ago and is expected to have "a package of 10 plays or so," according to insider Tom Silverstein. Don Jackson, promoted from the practice squad this afternoon, is listed as Green Bay's starter. If you're dabbling in the Packers backfield tonight -- and we wouldn't recommend it -- Jackson is the better fantasy play.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Packers RB Eddie Lacy needs foot surgery and will be place on the IR. It's unclear if he has a chance to be the player designated for return. But even that would keep him out until at least Week 15. Lacy can safely be dropped in all redraft league. With RB James Starks expected to miss a few more weeks, newly acquired Knile Davis suddenly finds himself atop the depth chart. We don't love the player, but the situation makes him worth owning in most fantasy leagues. We'll see if the Packers promote undrafted rookie RB Don Jackson from the practice squad. ESPN's Rob Demovsky expects WR Ty Mongtomery to handle the majority of the backfield snaps against the Bears tonight.

Packers RB Eddie Lacy (ankle) is now expected to miss "several weeks," according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "It's more than a sprained ankle," Rapoport adds ominously. The Packers have already had their bye, so Lacy doesn't catch a break there. With RB James Starks (knee) also expected to miss multiple weeks, RB Knile Davis has become a lot more interesting. He's never been an efficient runner, averaging just 3.3 yards per carry for his career. But any RB set to potentially see 15+ touches per game is a fantasy asset.

Update: Green Bay has officially ruled him out for Thursday night's game against the Bears.

A source tells ESPN's Ed Werder that Packers RB Eddie Lacy (ankle) is unlikely to play against the Bears on Thursday night. Lacy was obviously bothered by that bum ankle last week and didn't practice on Tuesday. We'll have a better idea of his status after Green Bay practices on Wednesday, but fantasy owners need to be making other plans for Week 7. RB Knile Davis, acquired by the Packers this morning, might operate as the lead back 2 days from now.

The Chiefs have traded RB Knile Davis to the Packers. He's been bandied about as a trade candidate for the past couple of seasons after falling out of favor in Kansas City. The 5'10, 227-pounder looks the part but has never averaged better than 3.5 yards per carry in a season. Davis heads to a Packers backfield that has a banged-up starter and a backup expected to miss a month. He should quickly assume a role and could even be a spot starter if Eddie Lacy misses time with his ankle issue. Davis is worth adding at least in deeper fantasy leagues.

Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (hamstring) is inactive for today’s game against the Bills. He made progress throughout the week and should be back for Week 13. RB Spencer Ware will operate as the lead back today and is a good bet for 15+ touches. RB Knile Davis will work behind Ware.

Chiefs RB Charcandrick West (hamstring) missed his 2nd straight practice on Thursday.  He looks extremely iffy for this weekend's game against the Bills.  If West sits, Spencer Ware would be the favorite for backfield touches.  Knile Davis would also likely be involved.

Chiefs RB Knile Davis will be a healthy scratch for today's game against the Broncos, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.  Jamaal Charles' backup for the past 2 years, Davis has now fallen behind Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware on the depth chart.  He's signed cheaply for 1 more season in Kansas City.  We'll see if the Chiefs hang on to him.  West is locked in as the feature back for the rest of 2015.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid that he'll turn to a committee backfield to replace RB Jamaal Charles.  "You know you’re not going to replace Jamaal. He’s one of the best. Really, when it’s all said and done, one of the best in the history of the game," Reid said.  "That’s not how you go about it. You find out and (take advantage of) the strengths of those other players. And that’s the challenge as a coach, to make sure you’re putting them in a good position to do that."  Reid mentioned that RB Charcandrick West is most similar to Charles in play style, but that RB Knile Davis might be the best between-the-tackles option.  Kansas City also has RB/WR De'Anthony Thomas and promoted RB Spencer Ware from the practice squad.  West is the best bet for fantasy production, but he's certainly not locked in as the lead guy the rest of the way.  And he won't come close to the volume Charles saw.

An MRI on Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles' right knee confirmed a torn ACL, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.  Charles is out for the rest of the 2015 season.  This is the opposite ACL from the 1 he tore back in 2011.  Charles returned in 2012 to run for a career-best 1,509 yards.  He was 25 then, though.  He'll be 29 when he returns in 2016.  Charcandrick West looks like the new lead dog in Kansas City's backfield, but it'll be a committee that also includes Knile Davis, De'Anthony Thomas and potentially a free-agent addition.

The Chiefs' "immediate fear" is that RB Jamaal Charles has a torn ACL, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.  He'll undergo an MRI to confirm.  We should learn the results of that test Sunday night or Monday morning.  Charcandrick West operated as Kansas City's lead back after Charles exited, with Knile Davis as the #2 RB.

Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles injured his right knee in the 3rd quarter of Sunday's game against the Bears.  It appeared to give out as Charles tried to make a cut back.  He couldn't put any weight on the leg as he was helped off the field.  We'll pass along an update when we get one.  RB Charcandrick West has been playing ahead of RB Knile Davis.

Chiefs RB Knile Davis has seemingly fallen to 3rd on the depth chart.  He hasn't played a single offensive snap over the past 2 weeks, while RB Charcandrick West has played 26.  “We like what Charcandrick has been doing,” HC Andy Reid. “We also like Knile. In certain situations, we like to use them all."  We suspect that Davis would still be involved if RB Jamaal Charles goes down, but he's lost most of his handcuff value.

Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles did not practice on Wednesday.  HC Andy Reid said Monday that Charles was dealing with some knee and ankle soreness but didn't sound concerned about his availability for this weekend's game against the Raiders.  Fantasy owners can keep Charles penciled into lineups but should have Knile Davis rostered as insurance.

Chiefs RB Jamaal Charles (ankle) is listed as probable for Monday night's game against the Patriots.  He practiced all week and "did everything" on Saturday, per HC Andy Reid.  Owners can safely get Charles back into fantasy lineups.  RB Knile Davis will head back to his change-of-pace role and is a weak fantasy play.
