Bengals S Shawn Williams (thigh) is active for today's game against the Ravens. He barely practiced this week while dealing with the injury and carries re-injury risk into the game, but he also figures to be busy. Consider the risk-reward as you decide whether to include Williams in your IDP lineup.
The Bengals have ruled DE Carlos Dunlap out for Sunday's game against the Ravens. Dunlap started the week as a full participant but then left Thursday's workout early and missed Friday with a knee injury. It'll be his first missed game since 2012. We'll watch for further details on the injury.
Bengals starting DEs Carlos Dunlap and Sam Hubbard were both removed from the week's final injury report. Dunlap (hamstring) and Hubbard (ankle) each missed practice Thursday and put in limited participation Thursday. But each guy returned to a full practice Saturday. Use them as you normally would in IDP lineups. Cincinnati will miss OLB/DE Carl Lawson, who is doubtful with a hamstring injury.
Bengals OLB Vontaze Burfict put in a limited practice Wednesday for the 1st time since suffering a hip injury back in Week 7. He missed the past 2 games but could be on track to return Sunday against the Ravens. We'll watch his status through the week. Teammate Nick Vigil remained out Wednesday with his knee injury.
Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict left Sunday night's game against the Chiefs with a hip injury and did not return. We'll check on his status heading into a Week 8 meeting with the Bucs.
Bengals OLB Vontaze Burfict has passed his physical and rejoined the team. Burfict opened training camp on the non-football injury list because of a hamstring issue but returns with plenty of time to get ready. Of course, the veteran will still miss the 1st 4 weeks of the regular season because of a PED suspension. Cincinnati lists Jordan Evans as Burfict's primary backup on the initial ("unofficial") depth chart. IDP owners in deeper leagues can consider pairing the 2. Evans topped 80% playing time in 3 straight games last season after OLB Nick Vigil went down.
The Bengals have placed LB Nick Vigil on IR with his ankle injury. They will also miss fellow starting LB Vontaze Burfict (concussion) for Sunday's game against the Bears, along with S Shawn Williams (hamstring), CB Dre Kirkpatrick (concussion) and CB Adam Jones (groin). According to Bengals.com's Geoff Hobson, HC Marvin Lewis expects DT Geno Atkins (toe) to play after missing some practice time this week. LBs Kevin Minter and Vincent Rey figure to see more snaps and enter IDP relevance, as long as the hamstring issue that limited Rey's participation this week doesn't keep him out.
Bengals S George Iloka initially drew a 1-game suspension from the NFL for a shot to the head of Steelers WR Antonio Brown in Monday night's loss. But the league overturned its ruling on appeal and changed the punishment to a fine. Iloka hasn't been much of an IDP factor, but his presence will help a Cincinnati defense ravaged by injuries. Six starters missed practice Wednesday, including SS Shawn Williams and the top 3 CBs.
Bengals S Shawn Williams left Saturday's game after suffering a nasty-looking right elbow injury. The team ruled him out for the game. We'll see about the specific diagnosis.
Bengals OLB Vontaze Burfict will need to clear the league concussion protocol in order to play Saturday night against Houston. The team website reports that Burfict got cleared Sunday to return to the game after a 2nd-quarter collision sent him to the locker room for concussion testing. Burfict also reportedly passed several other checks during the game, but then reported symptoms some time over the following 2 days. Wednesday was the only full practice of the week, so we'll keep an eye on reports of Burfict's status. He's a top-level IDP option if available. If Burfict can't go, Vincent Rey would likely start in his place and bring fantasy upside. Rey's dealing with a hamstring injury this week, though, that limited his practice time Wednesday.
The Bengals are expected to make MLB Rey Maualuga inactive for Monday night's game with the Giants, according to ESPN's Adam Caplan. Maualuga missed practice Thursday and Friday with a leg injury, though his absence Monday night might ultimately be tied more to a defense in need of some changes. DC Paul Guenther reportedly indicated this week that some veterans are on notice after a 3-4-1 start. That apparently includes Maualuga. We might see some of rookie LB Nick Vigil on Monday night. Given the uncertainty, though, Vontaze Burfict's the top LB play among Bengals. Karlos Dansby's in play in deeper leagues. Beyond that, we'll see what happens.
The NFL has suspended Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict for the 1st 3 games of next season for repeated flagrant hits on opponents -- the most recent, of course, being Saturday night's head shot on Steelers WR Antonio Brown. That will mark the 2nd straight year Cincinnati will have to start without Burfict, who missed the 1st 6 games of 2015 while recovering from a knee injury. LB Vincent Rey has filled in for Burfict the past 2 years and delivered for IDP owners, but he's set to hit unrestricted free agency. The Bengals could turn to 2015 rookie Paul Dawson if Rey leaves. We'll see what they do this offseason.
Bengals CB Adam Jones is active for today's game against the Browns. Use him as you normally would in your IDP league, though the foot injury adds some risk.
Bengals CB Adam Jones is questionable for Sunday's game against the Browns because of a foot injury that has bothered him the past few weeks. Jones missed practice Wednesday and Thursday before putting in a limited workout Friday. He played about 81% of the snaps last week after missing the previous game with the injury. We'll check on Jones' status Sunday morning.
Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict is probable for Sunday's game at Arizona despite a knee injury that limited him in practice all 3 days this week. Burfict played only 55.6% of the defensive snaps in the Monday night loss to the Texans while dealing with the knee. That makes him a poor IDP bet for this week.
Bengals OLB Vontaze Burfict will join his team for practice Thursday for the 1st time in more than a year, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Burfict suffered a knee injury last October that eventually required microfracture surgery in the offseason. He started this year on the PUP, which still gives the Bengals 3 more weeks to decide whether to activate him or put him on IR. We'll see how Burfict's knee responds to practice -- and perhaps game action before too long. But even he realizes that a full return right away isn't realistic. “Who hasn't played in a year and come plays 70, 80 snaps in one game?" Burfict said of his chances for Week 8. "So I'm just looking forward to contributing as much as I can." You can stash Burfict now if you play in a deep IDP league, but don't go dropping value to add him in average-sized formats (say, 5 IDP starters or fewer). Vincent Rey has been Cincinnati's best -- and only 3-down -- LB in Burfict's absence, dating back to last year. Expect him to retain a starting spot even when Burfict gets back into the lineup.
