The Cardinals placed RB Bam Knight on IR with the ankle injury suffered in Sunday's loss to the Texans. He's the third Arizona RB to be lost for the season, following James Conner and Trey Benson. The backfield is now down to Michael Carter and Emari Demercado. Carter dominated work in Houston, tallying 14 carries and four targets to Demercado's one carry and three targets. We're expecting Demercado to be a bit more involved the rest of the way, but Carter is the far superior fantasy bet. And he gets nice matchups the next two weeks vs. the Falcons (19th vs. RBs) and Bengals (32nd).

Michael Carter led the Cardinals backfield Sunday in the first game since RB Trey Benson went down with a knee injury. Carter handled 18 of the 25 RB rushes in the Week 5 loss to the Titans. He also drew five of the team's six RB targets, tying Marvin Harrison Jr. for second on the team in that category. Carter caught all five of those to match TE Trey McBride for the team reception lead. But his yardage efficiency in both phases failed to impress.

Emari Demercado generated the most rushing yards Sunday in a Cardinals backfield spreading the work around after losing both James Conner and Trey Benson to knee injuries. But Demercado overshadowed the work split and his performance and effectively lost his team the game by voluntarily dropping the ball before he crossed the goal line on what should have been a long fourth-quarter TD run.

The Cardinals have announced that RB Trey Benson will hit IR for the knee injury he suffered late in Week 4. That announcement comes just after we learned the RB's Week 5 status was "in question" and knocks him out for at least four games.

Update: Benson underwent arthroscopic surgery on his meniscus and is expected to be out for four to six weeks, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Arizona has a Week 8 bye, so it's still possible that Benson only misses four games.

Demercado would handle most of the passing-down snaps, but Carter would likely play plenty on early downs.

There was no report of an injury before or after Thursday night's loss to the Rams, but HC Jonathan Gannon said Monday that they're taking it "day by day" with Benson. We'll look for more info on his status and get Arizona's first official practice report of the week on Wednesday. Benson's absence would leave RBs Michael Carter and Emari Demercado likely forming a committee. Neither would be an exciting fantasy play.

He was having a huge game before going down, running for 117 yards and a score and catching four balls for 49 yards. With RBs Trey Benson and Emari Demercardo out, Arizona is down to RBs Michael Carter and DeeJay Dallas.

The Cardinals spent a third-round pick on RB Trey Benson from Florida State. Benson suffered a multi-ligament knee injury as a freshman at Oregon in 2020 and did very little in 2021. He transferred to Florida State ahead of the 2022 campaign and turned in two highly efficient seasons for the Seminoles. Benson averaged 6.1 yards per carry and scored on 7.4% of his attempts across the past two years. An explosive runner with strong contact balance, Benson scored TDs of 80+ yards as a runner, receiver, and pass-catcher at Florida State. He confirmed his elite athleticism by earning a 9.73 Relative Athletic Score at the Combine, highlighted by a 4.39-second 40 time. Benson also showed promise as a pass-catcher over the last two years, catching 32 of 39 targets and averaging 11.5 yards per reception. He averaged just 13.2 touches per game at Florida State but has the potential to garner a bigger workload as a pro. Going to Arizona likely limits Benson's touch outlook for 2024. Cardinals RB Michael Carter is a healthy scratch for today's game vs. the Texans. Not a big surprise after he was acquired earlier this week. With RB Emari Demercado out with his toe injury, it'll be RBs Tony Jones and Keaontay Ingram behind James Conner.

Jets HC Robert Saleh labeled RB Zonovan Knight questionable but "arrow up" for Thursday night's game vs. the Jaguars, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini. Knight missed some time in yesterday's loss to the Lions with an ankle injury but eventually returned. We'll keep a close eye on his status over the next couple of days. If Knight can't play on Thursday, we'd likely see RB Michael Carter lead a committee alongside Ty Johnson and James Robinson.

Jets RB Michael Carter (ankle) is not listed on the Week 14 injury report. So he'll be back for Sunday's game vs. the Bills -- and should be at least close to 100%. The question now becomes how touches will be divvied in this backfield. HC Robert Saleh said Wednesday that RB Zonovan Knight is "not going anywhere," so expect him to remain significantly involved. RBs Ty Johnson and/or James Robinson also might continue to mix in. It's a messy situation and a tough matchup this weekend.
