New York Giants Injury Updates

The Giants on Friday traded OLB Olivier Vernon to the Browns for G Kevin Zeitler. That news looks biggest for IDP owners, who could afford to pay Vernon no attention as a LB battling an ankle injury. With Cleveland, Vernon should return to primarily playing 4-3 DE opposite Myles Garrett. That immediately increases his fantasy value and puts him in a potentially nice situation. Vernon figures to jump back into our top 20 D-linemen for 2019.

ESPN's Josina Anderson reports that Giants S Landon Collins is headed to IR with a shoulder injury that will require surgery. That leaves an already-weak defense without arguably its best player for the final 4 games. It also leaves IDP owners without a top-5 fantasy DB. Michael Thomas looks like the fill-in but would make for a risky lineup replacement in Week 14. We'll see if he gives us a performance that points to usability over the final 2 weeks of most fantasy seasons.

Giants S Landon Collins suffered a shoulder injury in Sunday's win over the Bears and will miss next Sunday's visit to Washington, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The report gives no specifics on the injury so far, adding that the team will "evaluate" it "going forward." Collins' absence is bad news for the Giants' team D in an upside matchup with Mark Sanchez and a Washington offense ravaged by injury. It's good news, however, for Washington TE Jordan Reed.

The Giants have ruled ILB Alec Ogletree out for Sunday's game against Washington with a hamstring injury. That will leave ILB B.J. Goodson wearing the green dot and likely playing at least a near-full snap share. We've added Goodson to the Week 8 LB rankings, and he'll carry tackle upside beyond his ranking in what could/should be a heavy dose of Adrian Peterson.

The Giants have ruled OLB Olivier Vernon out for the 3rd straight game because of his ankle injury. They've also ruled CB Eli Apple (groin) out for Sunday's visit to Houston. The absences can only help the outlook for a Texans offense that already looked like 1 to target for fantasy starters this weekend.

Giants OLB Olivier Vernon has been ruled out for the 2nd straight game because of an ankle injury. He's not worth owning right now in most redraft IDP leagues.

The Giants have ruled OLB Olivier Vernon out for Sunday's opener against the Jaguars because of an ankle injury. We'll see about his status for Week 2. New York will miss its top pass rusher in the 1st game under new DC James Bettcher, but you shouldn't have been planning to use this defense in fantasy anyway.

Giants OLB Olivier Vernon left Sunday's practice on a cart after suffering a left ankle injury, according to multiple reports. ESPN reports that X-rays came back negative. That doesn't rule out ligament damage. We'll keep an eye out for further details.

The Giants have ruled MLB B.J. Goodson out for Sunday's game against the Cowboys. That clears a muddled LB picture a bit for IDP owners and makes Kelvin Sheppard likely to get enough snaps to be useful in fantasy. Sheppard led all Giants LBs in snaps each of the past 2 weeks, topping 80% in each game while supplying 7 and 8 total tackles (including 7 combined solos). The team also placed OLB Jonathan Casillas on IR Wednesday with neck and wrist injuries.

Giants MLB B.J. Goodson left Sunday's loss to the Seahawks early with a left ankle injury. The New York Daily News reports that he had a walking boot and crutches as he left the stadium. HC Ben McAdoo offered no further details of the injury after the game. The Giants get a Week 8 bye, so we'll see if the injury costs Goodson any further time. LB Keenan Robinson picked up extra snaps against Seattle.

Giants DE Olivier Vernon is questionable for Sunday's game against the Bucs with the ankle injury he suffered in last week's loss to the Eagles. We'll check his status Sunday afternoon. The 4:05 ET kickoff makes Vernon risky to wait for in IDP lineups.

NJ.com's Dan Duggan reports that Giants MLB B.J. Goodson and DE Olivier Vernon participated in practice Wednesday. Goodson missed practice all last week -- and then the game -- after a shin injury cost him the Week 2 loss to Detroit. Vernon hurt his left ankle in Sunday's loss at Philly but appears to be on track to play in Week 4. Both will be options for IDP lineups if they stay active.

The Giants have ruled MLB B.J. Goodson out for Sunday's game against the Eagles with the shin injury that also cost him Week 2. We'll see how playing time goes in his absence. Rookie Calvin Munson started and played every defensive snap last Monday night. But veteran LB Keenan Robinson returned to practice this week after starting the year sidelined by concussion issues. Elsewhere on the Giants defense, top CB Janoris Jenkins (ankle) is questionable. That's bigger news for Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery than for IDP owners. Missing Jenkins would significantly improve Jeffery's fantasy outlook.

NJ.com reports that the Giants expect to start rookie Calvin Munson to start at MLB in place of B.J. Goodson against the Lions on Monday night. Goodson is officially questionable with a shin injury sustained in Friday's practice. We'll see about his status for Week 3. Jonathan Casillas is a better IDP bet than Munson if you're needing a fill-in for Goodson

The Giants on Sunday added CB Janoris Jenkins to the injury report with hand and ankle issues. He's now questionable for Monday night's game against the Lions. Jenkins participated in Thursday and Friday practices but was projected as a limited participant for Saturday's walkthrough. He's not much of an IDP option, but his absence would help the outlook for Lions WRs.

The Giants added LB B.J. Goodson to the injury report Saturday after he missed the week's final practice with a shin injury. HC Ben McAdoo said the issue arose during Friday's workout and that they pulled him off the field as it got sore, according to the New York Daily News. He's listed as questionable for the Monday night game against the Lions. An active Goodson would be worth waiting for, after the new starter delivered 18 tackles against Dallas in the opener. You'll need an insurance LB from the Monday night game if you want to wait, though. Assuming Lions MLB Jarrad Davis is taken, your best options would be Giants OLB Jonathan Casillas and Lions OLB Tahir Whitehead. In a flex spot, Lions safeties Tavon Wilson and Glover Guin, Giants CB Eli Apple and Giants S Darian Thompson follow as potential fill-ins.

ESPN reports that the Giants will use their franchise tag on DE Jason Pierre-Paul. It's not a surprising move given JPP's continued studly performance before injury ended his 2016 prematurely. Durability has long been his primary issue, but Pierre-Paul returned to dominance last season even with his fireworks-altered hand. He also just turned 28 in January. JPP has reportedly said he won't play on a 1-year deal. The tag gives the 2 sides until July 15 to reach a longer-term agreement. Barring a summer holdout, you should expect Pierre-Paul to rank among our top 5 IDP linemen come preseason

Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul visited sports hernia specialist Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia on Tuesday, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Pierre-Paul reportedly spoke optimistically after Sunday's game about the groin injury that ended his day early, so he might just be seeking confirmation that the issue is OK to play through. We'll certainly be watching for updates. Losing JPP for any more time would deal a big blow to IDP lineups and the Giants' team D.

Giants DE Jason Pierre-Paul left Sunday's game at Pittsburgh early with a groin injury. We'll see about his status this week. Kerry Wynn would likely see the biggest playing-time boost if JPP sits.
