Commanders dump Brandon McManus

Brandon McManus Headshot

The Commanders have released K Brandon McManus. The move comes less than a week after reports of a lawsuit two flight attendants filed against McManus alleging sexual assault during a team flight when McManus played for the Jaguars. Washington had signed McManus to a one-year, $3.6 million deal just this offseason -- opting to add him instead of bringing back 2023 kicker Joey Slye.

What They're Saying

Commanders official statement: "We take allegations of this nature very seriously."

Statement from McManus attorney Brett R. Gallaway: "We reiterate that the allegations against Brandon are and remain absolutely false and importantly, are contradicted by indisputable evidence and the accusers' own prior inconsistent statements and omissions. While we are disappointed with the team's decision to release Brandon before he had the opportunity to defend against these fabricated claims, we will aggressively defend and clear Brandon's name and reputation through the legal process. We intend to defeat these claims, fully exonerate him and look forward to seeing him back on the field where he belongs."

2024 Fantasy Football Impact

Washington's quick decision to dump McManus -- especially with no other kicker on the roster -- doesn't bode well for his chances of landing another NFL job before this lawsuit clears.

The Commanders, meanwhile, shouldn't have much trouble finding a replacement.

Slye signed with the Patriots this offseason, where he's competing with 2023 fourth-round pick Chad Ryland.

Notable free agents at the position include:

  • Randy Bullock
  • Mason Crosby
  • Robbie Gould
  • Brett Maher
  • Ryan Succop

If you're already drafting into the lineup-setting tournaments on FFPC, then make sure you avoid McManus.

Most other large-field fantasy tournaments now exclude kickers altogether.

Dynasty Impact

If you have a dynasty roster with McManus as the lone kicker, go ahead and replace him with someone currently under contract. We wouldn't be surprised to see this lawsuit continue well into the coming NFL season.
