Bucs WR Chris Godwin said he doesn’t expect his role to change in 2025. “Last year verified for me that the slot is where I feel most comfortable, where I can be most involved in the game and do the most damage,” he said via The Athletic. The veteran will work under a new OC (Josh Grizzard) in 2025.

"Godwin’s production has never been the result of nine routes that leave a trail of vapor. He’s not the type of playmaker who shows up every week on “You Got Mossed.” He has dominated with movements that are subtle, precision that is surgical, and grit that is commanding. And he has been consistent like an atomic clock. Godwin’s style of play could bode well for him in his post-ankle injury phase... The Bucs wouldn’t have given him $44 million in guaranteed money if they had doubts.”
Godwin began his career by primarily playing on the outside. By Year 3, he transitioned to running most of his routes from the slot.
That changed in 2023, when he tallied just a 37.4% route rate from the slot (per Pro Football Focus). In a limited 2024 sample, that number jumped to nearly 62%.
Godwin's torrid early-season stretch proves there's no reason for a role change. From Week 1 to Week 7, only Ja'Marr Chase tallied more PPR points.
