Deebo Samuel WR SF

49ers Allow Deebo Samuel to Seek Trade

49ers Allow Deebo Samuel to Seek Trade

ESPN reports that the 49ers have granted WR Deebo Samuel permission to seek a trade. It's reportedly the second time in three seasons that Samuel has made such a request. Samuel has one year remaining on his contract, with a $15.8 million cap hit, according to Spotrac. A $15.4 million option bonus that would pay out March 22 appears to set a deadline for a deal to happen.

Fox's Jay Glazer reports that the Jets recently told QB Aaron Rodgers that they're "moving on from him." That reportedly came in a meeting Rodgers had flown back to New Jersey for. So not only should we expect the Jets to be in the market for a new QB, but Rodgers also appears to be interested in playing in 2025.

Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill said from the Super Bowl on Friday that he doesn't want to leave Miami. Hill made headlines after Week 18 when he told reporters, "I'm out." But he's changed his tune in the weeks since and seems likely to be back in Miami for the 2025 season.

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce said Monday that he has no plans to retire after the Super Bowl. "Where will I be in three years? Hopefully still playing football," Kelce said. "I love doing this. I love coming into work every day. I feel like I still got a lot of good football left in me." The 35-year-old posted career lows in 2024 in yards per catch (8.5), yards per target (6.2), yards after catch per reception (3.5), and yards per route (1.43). Kelce's 12.3 PPR points per game were his fewest since 2015. That was still good for seventh among TEs, though. Kelce's days as an elite fantasy asset are over, but he can still be a mid-range to low-end TE1 in 2025.

The Texans hired Nick Caley as their new OC, replacing Bobby Slowik. Caley spent the past two seasons working under Sean McVay in Los Angeles, holding the title of TEs coach in 2023 and passing game coordinator last year. He was with the Patriots from 2015 through 2022. Those first seven offenses were led by OC Josh McDaniels. We'll see what Caley picked up from McVay and McDaniels, but this will be his first time calling plays at any level. Priority No. 1 will be helping QB C.J. Stroud rebound from a disappointing sophomore season. Houston also has work to do on its offensive line and WR corps, with Stefon Diggs a free agent and Tank Dell likely to miss most or all of the 2025 season.

Rams WR Cooper Kupp announced Monday that the team has informed him it's trying to trade him. Kupp added that he doesn't want to be traded, but it sounds like L.A. is set to unload the WR's contract.

Browns Edge Myles Garrett has officially requested that the team trade him. According to multiple reports, though, Browns GM Andrew Berry has maintained that he's not interested in moving Garrett.

The Buccaneers promoted Josh Grizzard to OC, replacing Liam Coen. Grizzard was the team's passing game coordinator last year. He spent the previous seven seasons with the Dolphins, moving from offensive quality control to WRs coach. Grizzard has no play-calling experience at any level, but the Bucs are prioritizing continuity after the big 2024 season under Coen. "Josh is bright and innovative and was instrumental in our game planning and play design over the last year," HC Todd Bowles said. "After interviewing several outstanding candidates throughout this process, it ultimately became clear that our best option was here in our building." Grizzard will be Tampa Bay's fourth different OC in the last four years -- and QB Baker Mayfield's ninth different play caller as a pro.

The Raiders hired Chip Kelly as their OC under new HC Pete Carroll. Kelly spent this past year as Ohio State's OC, helping the Buckeyes to a 17th-place finish in points. Kelly was UCLA's HC the previous six seasons, finishing with a 35-34 record. That followed four years as an NFL HC: three with the Eagles and one with the 49ers. Kelly's first two Eagles teams finished top five in both points and total yards. The QBs on those teams ranged from Michael Vick to Nick Foles to Mark Sanchez. RB LeSean McCoy put up monster numbers across those two seasons: 2,926 rushing yards, 694 receiving yards, and 16 total TDs. Philadelphia sunk to 12th in yards and 13th in points in Kelly's final season, after McCoy was traded to Buffalo and Sam Bradford took over at QB. Kelly's lone season in San Francisco was QB Colin Kaepernick's final campaign and ended with a 2-14 record. But even that season produced a career-best 4.6 yards per carry from RB Carlos Hyde. We're bullish on Kelly's impact on Vegas' running game, although it remains to be seen who will be running the ball in 2025. The Raiders are also likely in the market for a new QB. They hold the sixth overall pick of this spring's draft.

The Jets are hiring Tanner Engstrand as their OC under HC Aaron Glenn, insider Jordan Schultz reports. Engstrand has been with Detroit since 2020, working his way up from offensive assistant in 2020 and 2021 to passing game coordinator under OC Ben Johnson for the last three seasons. Engstrand started his career at the University of San Diego in 2005. His only OC experience came with the UFL's DC Defenders in 2020. That squad ranked fifth in the eight-team league in both yards and points. We'll see what Engstrand learned in Detroit over the past five years, but he's largely a mystery when it comes to what he'll mean for the Jets' offense in 2025.
