Dynasty managers are treating 2027 rookie picks like gold, so why not look ahead to 2028? This class might not be as talent-rich, but it has already flashed potential impact options at RB and WR.

If 2028 firsts come at a steep discount vs. 2027 firsts, rebuilding teams might want to scoop up an extra one.

Just remember: college football changes quickly, and injuries, transfers, and breakout seasons can all shift the dynasty landscape.

Toney Broke Out. Moore Showed Potential.

Miami WR Malachi Toney broke out as a true freshman with 109 catches for 1,211 yards and 10 TDs. He added 23 carries and seven pass attempts as a multi-faceted slot weapon.

Toney stands only 5’11, 188 pounds, but his quickness and explosion gave even the best CBs problems. He could follow a DeVonta Smith-type path and grow into a top-10 pick.

Oregon WR Dakorien Moore didn’t match that production, finishing with 34 catches for 497 yards and 3 TDs. But the five-star recruit was also stuck behind Kenyon Sadiq and Malik Benson, both of whom got drafted in 2026.

Moore still flashed NFL talent with physicality off the line and great body control on contested catches. He doesn’t appear maxed out on his 195-pound frame, so Moore could continue gaining momentum. This year looks like a potential breakout season for Moore.

A 2026 breakout would put Moore in the mix for a future top-5 rookie slot.

Bo Jackson Takes the Buckeyes Backfield  

Another Bo Jackson will be headed to the NFL in 2028. The Buckeyes RB quickly passed CJ Donaldson and James Peoples on the depth chart during his freshman season and finished with 1,060 yards and 6 TDs. He added 19 catches for 200 yards and a TD.

His vision to find small creases and turn them into chunk gains proved invaluable to Ohio State last year. His natural receiving ability and solid pass blocking kept Jackson on the field over more experienced competition.

Jackson comes into the season expected to carry the load once again. A successful year would put him on a first-round trajectory for 2028. 

A few other RBs carry top-100 potential. Caleb Hawkins ran for 1,454 yards and 25 TDs at North Texas last season. Now he follows HC Eric Morris to Oklahoma State to prove it against better competition.

That kind of RB depth is exactly why grabbing a discounted 2028 first now can pay off.

Oregon’s Jordon Davison brings a bruising 236-pound frame that helped him score 15 TDs last season. Lead RB Noah Whittington left for the NFL, so Davison could get a full second-year workload to showcase his NFL talent.

Cal Helps Put QB on the 2028 Map

Cal QB Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele flashed NFL potential as a freshman, throwing for 3,454 yards with 18 TDs and 9 INTs. He finished strong, topping 320 yards in three of his final four games without an interception in any of them.

There also remains potential for top recruits such as Alabama’s Keelon Russell and Ohio State’s Tavien St. Clair to emerge. We go into more detail on the QBs in our 2028 Superflex Rookie Rankings.
