2026 Rookie Picks Won’t Save You in Superflex

Need QB help? Well you'd better be holding the No. 2 pick in your rookie draft. If you're not, then you'd better check the dynasty trades route.

Fernando Mendoza looks poised to follow Jeremiyah Love at the start of most superflex rookie drafts this year. Ty Simpson was the only other QB to go inside the first two rounds, and he'll have to wait for Matthew Stafford to retire.

Behind them sit career-backup types. And the other positions aren't offering much help.

Check these superflex rookie rankings to see if you can find any bright spots.

Fernando Mendoza: Elite Ball Placement

Fernando Mendoza has been compared to Joe Burrow with his ball placement. His ability to create easy catches for his WRs could make Mendoza a future top-12 fantasy QB.

The Raiders rebuilt their O-line and have an elite weapon in Brock Bowers. That should help support Mendoza's fantasy output early in his career.

Mendoza should be drafted near the top of the class and would contend for the 1.01 pick in rookie drafts if stud RB Jeremiyah Love wasn't in the class.

Projection Over Production at QB

There was only one other QB selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Ty Simpson landed in an ideal spot on the Rams, pairing him with HC Sean McVay for the future. Simpson's lack of experience (15 college starts) does raise a red flag though.  First-round QBs with 15 or fewer starts in the last 10 years:

  • Anthony Richardson
  • Mitchell Trubisky
  • Dwayne Haskins

That’s a bad list to be on. But, Simpson will sit and learn behind Matthew Stafford. That makes him a first round rookie pick.

Late-Round QB Upside

The late-round rookie QBs do offer some upside.

Carson Beck was a third round selection for the Arizona Cardinals. He might end up starting some games this season with Jacoby Brissett set to start for the team, but Beck looks more like a game manager than franchise QB.

The Steelers took Drew Allar in the third round. He does offer upside with his arm strength and rushing ability, but the lack of polish makes him more of a dart throw in rookie drafts.

The Browns took an intriguing fantasy asset in Taylen Green. Green had the best QB workout since Anthony Richardson. At 6'6 and 227 pounds, Green ran a 4.36 40-time with a 43.5" Vertical and 11'02" Broad Jump. All three workouts are 99th percentile according to Mockdraftable

Keep an eye on the Eagles selection in Day 3: Cole Payton. A productive passer at NDSU, Payton offers elite rushing upside and a strong enough arm for the NFL. He is an ideal QB to stash on taxi squads in case Jalen Hurts gets hurt.
