Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence labored through a Week 2 loss vs. Cleveland. Lawrence posted 220 scoreless yards, while the Jags offense totaled one TD. At one point, the Jags went 11 straight possessions (starting in Week 1) without a score.
Here’s Lawrence on Jacksonville’s 0-2 start:
“We had a great offseason, great training camp and we’ve got to figure it out,” he said. “We’ve got good players and we can be a good offense. Clearly we’re not. Look in the mirror, fix it. I’ve got to play better. The wideouts have to play better. The line’s got to play better. Running backs, coaching ... it’s everybody, honestly.”
And HC Doug Pederson:
“I’m at a loss... I just know we’re a better football team than what we played today.”
Lawrence recorded 66 of his 220 yards on one pass to rookie WR Brian Thomas Jr. Otherwise, his main highlight was a career-high rush of 33 yards.
Now, TE Evan Engram was a surprise inactive after suffering a hamstring injury in pre-game warmups. And the Cleveland matchup might prove to be among his toughest all season.
Still, it’s hard to call this outing anything other than a huge disappointment for the former top pick.
Lawrence now hits the road to face Buffalo on Monday Night Football. Given the Bills’ current form, it’s an unlikely breakout spot.
