QB Aaron Rodgers has informed the Steelers that he plans to sign and attend mini-camp. Rodgers had an offer from the team sitting for over two months, but was still mulling retirement. He provides a massive upgrade over QB Mason Rudolph, especially for WR D.K. Metcalf's fantasy outlook. Even so, Rodgers hardly inspires confidence that he will return to All-Pro form approaching age 42.
Gerry Dulac from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: "BREAKING: Aaron Rodgers has informed the Steelers he plans to sign a contract and attend mini camp next week, per sources."
The one-year deal will make Rodgers the starting QB for the Steelers for 2025.
With OC Arthur Smith's run first offense, Rodgers likely won't put up huge fantasy numbers, especially with the lack of receiving depth on the Steelers.
He should be treated as a low-end QB2 who could fill in when match-ups or bye weeks dictate.
Over his last two healthy seasons, Rodgers averaged 223.3 passing yards and 1.6 passing TDs per game.
This year likely will be similar with the occasional spike week (and dud week) tossed in.
The big winner is Metcalf who would have floundered with Rudolph leading the Steelers.
Rodgers showed a propensity to still look downfield for his top WR last year (Garrett Wilson early in the season and Davante Adams late).
Metcalf and Rodgers will have to build a rapport in camp.
