Russell Wilson Is New York's Starter ... But For How Long?

We've expected Wilson to open the season as the Giants' starter since he signed in late March. He's a 13-year NFL veteran who got $10.5 million guaranteed on his one-year deal. His competition is QB Jameis Winston, who hasn't been a full-time starter since 2019, and QB Jaxson Dart, the 25th overall pick of this spring's draft.

The bigger question is how long Wilson will last as the starter. He'll turn 37 in November and is clearly past his prime.

Wilson remained serviceable last year, though, completing 63.7% of his passes at 7.4 yards per attempt. He ranked 18th among 39 qualifying QBs in Pro Football Focus passing grade. And he was particularly effective throwing deep, ranking second in adjusted completion rate on passes 20+ yards downfield.

If Wilson can maintain that level of play this year, he could hang on to the starting job for most or all of the season. But if he dips -- especially behind a shaky Giants offensive line -- we could see Winston or, more likely, Dart sooner than later.

Ultimately, Wilson is only worth a pick as a third QB in 2-QB and superflex drafts. The upside is not exciting, and the floor has him on the bench by midseason.
