Matthew Stafford's Status In Question for Training Camp

Rams QB Matthew Stafford won't return to practice on Monday as anticipated due to back soreness. HC Sean McVay said the goal remains to have Stafford back for Week 1, so this sounds like a problem that could persist throughout camp and the preseason. Stafford obviously remains integral to the Rams' offensive success, so the injury is worth monitoring.

Sarah Barshop of ESPN: "Sean McVay said QB Matthew Stafford (back soreness) will not return to practice on Monday as anticipated. McVay said the Rams will take it a week at a time with Stafford but that the QB did not experience a setback. McVay said the goal remains to have Stafford back for Week 1."

2025 Fantasy Football Impact

Stafford hit age 37 this offseason, so issues like this may continue cropping up due to his age.

At first, it sounded very minor, but McVay's comments allude that the injury could linger over the next few weeks.

The Rams offense, including WRs Puka Nacua & Davante Adams (and to a lesser extent RB Kyren Williams) rely on Stafford to keep the offense productive.

He has two straight seasons of 3700+ passing yards and 20+ TDs.

If he does miss time, QB Jimmy Garoppolo would likely be the starting QB. There are worse back-ups in the league, but it certainly is a downgrade.

For now, there is little reason for alarm, but it is a situation worth monitoring as we get closer to the season.
