Giants Say No Rush for Jaxson Dart to Play -- Buy It?

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Giants say there's "no sense of urgency" to switch from QB Russell Wilson to first-round rookie Jaxson Dart. Wilson completed just 45.9% of his passes at 4.5 yards per attempt in a 15-point Week 1 loss at Washington.

        What They're Saying

Schefter: "It doesn't mean a change can't come soon at the quarterback position, but the Giants would prefer that it not happen anytime soon, according to sources. New York would prefer to continue to be patient, let Wilson play well and give Dart the time he needs to develop, sources said."

        2025 Fantasy Football Impact

        Duh.

I'm sure the Giants would love to let Wilson play "well" and ease Dart into his NFL career. But Wilson didn't play well in his Giants debut, and that came against a Washington defense that wasn't especially good last year.

HC Brian Daboll fed into the post-Week 1 speculation by refusing to commit to his Week 2 starter in the wake of that loss.

Sure, he then said Monday that Wilson would start today's game in Dallas. But the hesitation underscored not only the QB situation. Daboll -- and GM Joe Schoen -- are surely in danger of getting fired during this season if things don't turn around.

The duo oversaw a playoff berth in their 2022 Giants debut, but the team has since gone 6-11 and 3-14. There's not likely to be much patience for a Wilson-led clunker in 2025.

Dart should be stashed in any 2-QB and superflex leagues where he's still available. Jameis Winston could even be a candidate if you have the roster space, just in case the Giants decide they need to make a switch but don't yet want to expose their rookie.
