The Cowboys have agreed to a three-year deal with RB Javonte Williams. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that it'll pay out $24 million in total, with $16 million of that guaranteed. That contract total ties D'Andre Swift for 13th at the position in total money, according to Spotrac. The average annual value ($8 million) ties for 16th, also with Swift. Williams' first season in Dallas found him ranking 10th in the league in total carries (ninth in carries per game), ninth in rushing yards, eighth in rushing TDs, and 10th in PPR points per game.
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
Williams enjoyed easily his best pro season to date in 2025. His efficiency finally returned to the rates of his encouraging rookie year, before a devastating 2022 knee injury altered his path.
Williams averaged a career-high 4.8 yards per rush. He also ranked fourth at the position in yards after contact per carry, according to Pro Football Focus, ninth in elusive rating, and ninth in missed tackles forced.
He didn't fare nearly as well as a receiver, though. Williams posted career lows in:
- PFF receiving grade (45.7, 49th among 52 RBs with 20+ targets)
- yards per catch (3.9, 52nd)
- and yards after catch per reception (5.8, 50th)
That helps explain why Williams didn't garner a larger contract ahead of his age-26 season. It also leaves open the possibility that Dallas looks to upgrade it's backfield receiving.
Jaydon Blue could see more work in that area if he moves past the issues that kept him off the field for nearly all of his rookie season. And don't be surprised if the Cowboys draft another RB at some point.
Whether Williams will be worth targeting in redraft leagues will depend on where his ADP settles in July and August.
Best Ball Impact
Current drafting has found fantasy managers a bit hesitant, selecting Williams 23rd among RBs on Underdog to date.
Expect that ADP to rise now that he has not only found a team, but stayed with the team that fostered the 2025 breakthrough.
Williams makes for a good pick before that ADP (potentially) spikes. If it gets back around low-RB1 territory, though, you should be more hesitant.
Dynasty Impact
Getting a three-year deal undeniably boosts the longer-term outlook for a 26-year-old (as of April 25) who drew just a small, one-year pact from the Cowboys last offseason.
The same risk factors mentioned above make him a potential sell if some league mate has gotten excited about Williams staying in Dallas. But it's also fine to just hold the veteran.
Other Winners & Losers
This might seem like a dagger for Jaydon Blue's fantasy outlook, but it could wind up positive.
Blue clearly failed to impress the Cowboys as a fifth-round rookie, managing just 38 carries and one target for the entire season in a shallow backfield.
Blue entered the league with a better receiving profile than rushing: 56 college catches (at 9.0 per reception) vs. just 214 rushes (at 5.4 per).
Blue figures to face more competition for even backup roles this year. But a better offseason could land him a complementary role in a productive offense.
He's not worth pursuing in any fantasy format. But we'll see how his offseason progresses.
