The Jets and Chiefs are finalizing a deal to send QB Justin Fields to Kansas City, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Fields will have a chance to start early in the season if QB Patrick Mahomes isn't ready coming off his torn ACL. But Fields will spend most of the year learning under one of the game's best.
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
This seems like a good move for both Fields and the Chiefs.
The Chiefs get a viable No. 2 QB as they wait to see if Mahomes will be cleared for Week 1. Fields has obvious limitations as a passer. But he's made 53 career starts and remains one of the top running QBs in the league.
Fields will have QB1 spot-start appeal if he makes starts this season.
But this might be an even better career move for Fields, who will spend most of the year learning under HC Andy Reid and Mahomes -- one of the best duos in the league.
Fields is entering the final year of his current contract, so he'll hope to revive his career in Kansas City and then land a starting job in 2027. He'll still be only 28 for that 2027 campaign.
Fields remains worth keeping stashed in the vast majority of dynasty leagues.
