Jets HC Aaron Glenn confirmed that QB Geno Smith will be the starter. "No doubt about it, he's our guy," Glenn told NFL Network's Judy Battista.
What They're Saying
Here’s how Glenn responded when asked what Smith brings to the roster.
"It means to have a bona fide starter come in and lead this offense to where it needs to go," Glenn said via ESPN. "Listen, he's done it, you know, a couple of years. I mean, those years in Seattle, when he was, I think, Comeback Player of the Year.
"Man, he was up for MVP early in the season. There's no doubt in my mind that we brought a competent starter here on this team. I look forward to him getting in the building."
Meanwhile, ESPN’s Rich Cimini believes it’s “likely” the Jets either add another veteran or draft a rookie QB next month.
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
There's not much fantasy value left in Smith.
The 35-year-old is coming off a disappointing 2025 in Vegas, one that found him post only two top-12 fantasy finishes. You can put some of the blame on a bad Vegas supporting cast. But beyond Garrett Wilson, the Jets aren't exactly strong at pass catcher. New York at least supplies a huge talent upgrade along the O-line.
Still, Smith doesn't offer much with his legs. Since a breakout in 2022, he's posted 14 rushing yards per game with four total scores.
You can safely ignore the veteran outside of superflex drafts, especially with the possibility of a rookie coming in for mid- or late-season work.
