The Lions on Monday released CB Terrion Arnold in the wake of his arrest on multiple felony counts, including four apiece for kidnapping and assault. Arnold has been freed on $1 million bond but will be confined to his home as he awaits trial in Florida. The judge granted Arnold permission to leave his home for work -- including practices and games -- but the Lions’ swift action renders that moot.
2026 Impact
Detroit drafted Arnold in Round 1 just two years ago and started him in 22 of his 24 healthy games over the past two seasons. If anyone had reason to hope these charges were bogus, it was the team.
The Lions' quick release -- in a league that's often slow to act on off-field offenses -- suggests they've learned enough. If Detroit is out this quickly, it's tough to imagine another team jumping in.
We’ll see how Arnold’s case plays out in court, but treat him like he’s out of the league for good.
Fantasy Impact
There’s not much IDP impact here. Arnold finished each of his two Lions seasons outside the top 100 DBs in fantasy points per game. We’ve already deleted his projections from the system.
The Detroit defense has a hole to fill, but it’s not a huge loss. Arnold’s coverage numbers appeared to improve last season, as he went from allowing a 61.2% catch rate in 2024 to 56.1%, and the passer rating on throws into his coverage went from 100.4 to 88.6, according to Pro Football Focus. But Arnold also appeared in just eight games in that season.
Rock Ya-Sin, Keith Abney, and Roger McCreary look like candidates to start opposite D.J. Reed, though Detroit still has time to explore options not currently on the roster.
